Science Extravaganza!!
Elementary Mini-Cast
Our first annual Science Mini-Cast!
Agenda
- Session 1: 8:00am-9:30am
- Session 2: 9:45am-11:15pm
- Lunch: 11:15am-12:15pm
- Session 3: 12:15-1:45pm
Kinder Animal Characteristics 8:00 – 9:30
An integrated 5E lesson on how animals' characteristics help them survive in their environment, resemble their parents and their structures and processes that help them survive.
(Instructors: Carol Trammel, Nelda Charles, Charlene Danielson, Amanda Shippey)
Ants Underground (K-1) 8:00 – 9:30 & 12:15 – 1:45
(Instructor: Jacqueline Walsh, Megon Gelsone)
Private Eye (K-5) 8-9:30 & 9:45 – 11:15
Private Eye! Are you looking for a way to get your students to connect paying attention to detail, inferencing, and writing? In this session you will experience incorporating higher order thinking using jewelers loupes.
(Instructors: Megon Gelsone, Sandy Van Horn)
Soaking Soils (4-5) 8:00 – 9:30 & 12:15 – 1:45
Teachers will be given an opportunity to simulate soil retention and infiltration using recycled water bottles. This is an ideal opportunity to review erosion, soil retention, and the water cycle. Models will be created as a make and take for use in your classroom.
(Instructors: Sandy Guerra, Brittany Segura)
Volumizing Vocabulary (3-5) 8:00 – 9:30 & 9:45 – 11:15
Pump up the volume of understanding with exciting, active involvement strategies. Teachers will experience a variety of techniques designed to get kids looking forward to vocabulary study. Our examples will be for science, but the strategies can be used across the curriculum. Instructors: Diana Wueste, Debbie Vann, and Cindy Lara)
TPT Strategies (K-5) 9:45 –11:15 & 12:15 – 1:45
Total Participation Techniques: Participants will have an opportunity to use Total Participation Techniques as well as make their own TPT folder to use in the classroom. Participants will also walk away with a handy reference booklet to easily implement TPT strategies. By using Total Participation Techniques, several science process standards will be addressed (TEKS 5.2D, 5.2F, 5.3A). This presentation is appropriate for K - 5 grade levels.
(Instructors: Tracy Wenthe, Sandy Graham)
1st Grade Animal Characteristics 9:45 –11:15
An integrated 5E lesson on the external structures that help animals survive related to how it moves, where it lives, and what it eats; and how it resembles its parents.
(Instructors: Carol Trammel, Nelda Charles, Charlene Danielson, Amanda Shippey)
CDs in Motion (4-5) 9:45 –11:15 & 12:15 – 1:45
CDs in Motion - Exploring Experimental Design with Hovercrafts
(Instructors: Sandra Crawford, Billie Scott, Brandi Schonberg, Tina Lozano)
Multisensory Word Walls (K-5) 8-9:30 & 12:15–1:45
Interactive word walls is a student-generated approach to building the science vocabulary capacity of students. The multi-sensory approach to this strategy allows you to meet the needs to all types of learners. Interactive word walls can also be used as a support system to improve writing in science. Meets all content TEKS for vocabulary grades K-5.
