PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Kia ora koutou

Welcome to week 3. I hope you all have a great week.

During the course of the last week we have been updated as to the new regulations which apply to all schools across the country. I will highlight the important points below.

The new rules are not made by the schools but by government and the Ministry of Health. We are tasked to implement these at our school so we ask for your understanding and kindness towards our staff if you may not agree with some of them. We have no option but to follow the law. It is a very stressful time for us as we navigate through this process as well as trying to maintain a safe and happy learning environment for all of our children

Vaccination Requirements Explained

As at 11.59pm on Monday 25 October the COVID-19 Public Health Response Order for Mandatory Vaccinations for Education came into effect.

What the requirements are and who they apply to

Everyone who works for a school or kura who may have contact with children or students or will be present at a time when children and students are also present must have had a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by 15 November and be fully vaccinated by 1 January 2022. This includes parents and volunteers who want to come onto our school grounds when children are present..

From 1 January 2022, schools and kura must only allow those that are fully vaccinated to provide onsite services.

This includes:

  • principals
  • teachers
  • relief teachers and casual staff
  • administration staff
  • caretakers and cleaners
  • contractors and other tradespeople
  • service managers
  • parents/caregivers and other staff.

It also includes unpaid workers, such as:

  • volunteers and any members of the community who are regularly on site during a time when children and students may be present.
  • Throughout this guidance we have used the term staff member to refer to paid staff members, unpaid workers, volunteers, parents, contractors and other workers at our school.

The vaccination requirements apply wherever:

  • in person schooling occurs, such as on the school or early learning service site,
  • at school camps,
  • swimming pools,
  • museums,
  • other education outside the classroom (EOTC) programmes take place.
  • managers of sports teams
  • coaches of sports teams
  • parents providing transport to and from events for children
  • PMP volunteers
  • visiting a child's class during the school day
  • Attending a school assembly/final assembly

This means that both school staff and volunteers who are involved in EOTC should have had a first vaccination by 15 November and be fully vaccinated by 1 January 2022.

As we hear of an increased number of Covid cases in Auckland and now in the Waikato, our priority is to ensure the safety of our students and staff while on our school grounds.

I am sure you will agree with me that this should be our priority. I thank you for your understanding during these difficult and uncertain times.

DUCK DAY FUNDRAISER 2021

On Saturday 30 October our PTA held the Duck Day Duck Race fundraiser. A smaller than usual group of people gathered to watch the ducks race each other down the stream from the fire station to Herries Park.

This year we were fortunate to have had a fair bit of rain over the previous days so the stream was fast flowing. added to this, we had help from our local fire fighters who placed a pipe into the stream and added to water flow.

Thank you to the PTA for their hard work to sell over 1300 ducks for the race. This was an amazing effort by Kate Wassell and her team of helpers especially as we were trying to sell tickets in a Covid environment.

The prize winners are:

1st Duck winner - Amy Paetai ticket # 1008

2nd Duck winner - Chrisanne Sands # 992

3rd Duck winner - Emily ....... # 615

Last Duck - Mary King # 543

Thank you to everyone who supported our fundraiser.

Parents on School Grounds

No parents are permitted on the school grounds except if you are visiting the school office.

If you do come onto the school grounds to visit the office then you are required to wear a mask and to sign in at the office for our contact tracing. Please also scan in using the QR code on the office window.

Please also wear a face mask in the car park if you are getting out of your car to pick up your child from the front of the school as this is still on school grounds. Thank you for yourhelp with this. We do appreciate your support at this uncertain time.

We need to keep everyone safe.

THANK YOU PUB CHARITY

We are very excited to have been successful in receiving a grant from Pub Charity for our Year 7/8 Camp. This means that the cost of camp will be reduced for our students and we will be letting parents know about this in our next camp newsletter. Thank you Pub Charity - we are beyond grateful and so appreciative that we are able to make Camp possible for all our students.

SPORT NOTICES

Basketball: yr 7/8 starts tonight and yr 5/6 will follow. All children have been given a draw. Parents will need to wait outside for their children as the doors will be locked after we start.

Touch: We had a great night on Friday night, however we did have 4 people not turn up and this is really unfair on a team. If your child is not going to be there because they are sick, then please let me know. Parents, please let me know and not your child's teacher so that I can make the necessary arrangements for the team. It really isn't fair on the rest of the team when players just don't turn up.

Classroom Round Ups

Rm 1 Mrs Johnson

Wow! Room one is growing week by week. Welcome to Syruss and Lucas who will join our class this week. This week our sounds and letter formation are around the letters n, m, r and h. It is important to remind children that all letters start at the top and go down, it is really difficult to undo incorrect letter formations once they become entrenched.

We have made a change to how we are doing our story writing in class. We are focussing on saying the sentence that we want to write to a friend , followed by the teacher and then we are writing it down using our word card and our letter sounds for other words we need that are not on the word card. Lastly we illustrate the story we have written. This new approach has been very successful and children are enjoying writing this way. Number work is progressing well with the group who have been working on addition sums moving on to take away sums this week and the children in the number range from 1 to 10 working on before and after numbers. All children are focusing on correct number formation.

We have some budding athletes in the class and everyone is thoroughly enjoying participating. Please ensure that your child has a pair of shorts in their bag if they wear long pants to school.

Rm 2 Mrs McGhie

Room 2 did the Nursery Rhyme 'Itsy Bitsy Spider' last week. The children enjoyed doing the actions to this nursery rhyme and making spiders which will be on display at the A, P & H Show. I hope you enjoyed reading this nursery rhyme with your child(ren) over the weekend. Our potatoes are starting to grow which has caused great excitement amongst the children. This week athletics training will continue along with the great reading, writing and maths. If you have any questions or issues please contact me either by email or seesaw. Maria

Rm 3 Miss Swan

Welcome to week 3 already! This term is flying by and Room 3 has been training hard for Athletics, looking after their potatoes very well and designing some very awesome pop up cards for our AP and H show entries.
Reading: Reading books will be coming home from Monday-Thursday. Our sound of the week for phonics is ai and ey. Well done Room 3 for all of your hard work with your spelling words!

Writing: We are exploring how to use compound sentences effectively by joining two ideas together.

Maths: Maths groups continue to look at ordering numbers from 0-100, looking closely at what word problems are asking us to find out and understanding that 2 x 4 is the same as 4 x 2 but shows a different picture.
Reminders for the week

  • This week is the beginning of assessments and Whaea Armstrong will be in class while I am testing.

  • Please bring along a drink bottle everyday. This is super important as the weather warms up and with Athletics training.

  • Library day on Friday.

  • Homework for the week: Maths worksheet, spelling and daily reading book.

  • Please remember to bring along book bags and homework notebooks everyday. Room 3 needs their notebooks for word work during class times.

Please remember you can contact me via Seesaw and email mswan@tearohaprimary.school.nz

Have an amazing week!

Rm 5 Miss Entwisle

Our Spelling words this week are all about ing and tw. We look forward to participating in the Senior athletics this week. We are hoping to continue to work on our Butterfly Sanctuary and maintain this throughout the term making sure we keep the weeds and rubbish at bay. For those children who are motivated to do extra learning at home, our Spelling words, Weekly Poem and other Home Learning based tasks are shared each week via the Seesaw activity section. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me via email at mentwisle@tearohaprimary.school.nz or through the Seesaw message function.

Rm 6 Mrs Bankier

Last week we welcomed Layton to Room 6. This week is a very busy week. I am on release on Tuesday to do testing - Mrs Bartram will be in for me.

This week we will be doing a lot of different testing for the end of the year, covering reading, writing and maths.

Please check your child's hair regularly as it is the time of year that nits especially love and we have had a few cases lately.

Just a reminder that our library day is Tuesday.

Hopefully the weather is good to us on Wednesday for the school athletics day.

Have a great week.

Trina Bankier kbankier@tearohaprimary.school.nz

Rm 7 Mrs Paul

This week is assessment week so I will be out of the room for a few days to complete Maths and Reading testing. There are many other tests that need to be completed this week in order to write reports. I would really appreciate having everyone at school this week as it is really hard to find time to catch up on testing.

On Wednesday we have athletics. The children have been training hard and have made some awesome progress. It should be a stress free day as there will be no parents inside to make people nervous! Once again it would be good to have everyone present for that.

Kia ora koutou. ¡Hola! ¿Cómo estás?
This week is going to be awesome - we are looking forward to the Athletics sports on Wednesday and it has been really exciting to see students train hard. There are going to be some very competitive events, which makes the day all the more exciting. Good luck everyone. (please make sure your child has a note on Wednesday if they are unable to take part in the sports - we will put them to good use by helping with events and younger groups)

Maths - we will be investigating the properties of lines and shapes. We have become angle masters with our protractors!

Literacy - we complete our information report on the Trojan War and this will be shared over Seesaw. We have had to research information and provide evidence to show our thinking in order to plan this piece of writing.

Testing - Mrs B will begin our formal testing this week so it is really important that we are at school so this can be completed.

Tech - we began our last rotations for the year last week. For our students who are 12+years, please remember you need a mask for the bus.

Other - we will continue our Spanish modules and AP and H Show art entries this week.

Here is to a super busy and productive week. Looking forward to it
