Back to School Bash

Galveston ISD students are ready to GO! Nearly 1500 students pre-registered to receive supplies, backpacks, uniforms, and other back to school essentials at Galveston ISD’s Back to School Bash. On August 18, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., a steady stream of families wound their way through the Scott Building picking up much needed toiletries, underwear and socks, canned food, and even diapers and feminine products, in addition to the thousands of school supplies donated by community members and local organizations. Ball High Graduate Kaylhan Garcia is Encouraging Minorities to Live Más

The fall semester for 17-year-old Kaylhan Garcia should be the beginning of her last year in high school. But this Ball High School graduate is not only attending college at American University in Washington D.C., she’s doing it on a full-ride.

Recently, Garcia was awarded the Live Más Scholarship from Taco Bell, where she worked during her senior year. The company chose her from more than 10,000 video entries and awarded her $25,000 after posing the question ‘What are you passionate about?’

Convocation 2021

Galveston ISD hosted its 2021 Convocation on August 19, and for the first time in two years, teachers and staff were able to come together to get energized and inspired before the beginning of the school year. The live event took place at Ball High and for safety reasons, other staff members watched a live stream of the event from their buildings and classrooms.

Superintendent Dr. Jerry Gibson offered inspirational words and hopeful ambition for a district that is prepared for the challenges that will come with providing quality education while keeping children safe.

The guest speaker was Joel Zeff, who brought his brand of zany improv comedy to lighten the mood while tying the message back to the power of working together to achieve a common goal.
