Hawks Nest

Hancock Elementary School

Big picture

Hello Hawk Families....

We have had a wonderful 2 weeks at Hancock!

Our student population has grown immensely since most of our children are back face to face. Last year we started with only 300 children. This year we are starting with 950 and STILL GROWING!

We are ready to get going with our academics. We have been working on the procedures and being able to learn the structure of school.

This newsletter will come out weekly and will update you and prepare you for what is ahead.

I Hear You!

Perimeter of the Campus

Good news: we have already gotten so much faster with arrival and dismissal. For the last 7 days, we have completed dismissal by 3:45. Rainy day dismissal was a bit longer but all buses had left by 4:00 pm.

This week, I invited several Directors from the district to witness the morning and afternoon drop-off/pick-up lines and traffic concerns. Several concerns were shared and options are being considered. The district is reviewing our layout in the construction design.

Please know that I am listening and working for solutions to help our families while protecting the safety of our students.

Heads Up:

* Please do not park at the Vet office across the street in the morning. They are being kind but their clients are not able to get in the parking lot. They are not part of CFISD.

*There is a sign in the front going into the parking lot that states, NO LEFT TURN. Please follow the sign. We have already had a couple of accidents this year by cars not following the traffic signs and almost hitting our staff.

* A new walking path has been laid in the front of the building for parents wanting to continue to walk their children to the front. Several parents are walking in the middle of the parking lot. By not moving to the right, traffic is being held up for all.

*Car rider line, please have your children ready when you pull up to the door. Putting on shoes, putting items in the backpacks slows it down for all families.

*CFPD will be monitoring on random and they will begin giving citations for those not following traffic rules and are not wearing seatbelts or on their cell phone. I do not want that to happen to any of our families.

School Hours

8:00-3:30

Doors will open at 7:40 for students to begin entering. They may choose to go get their breakfast or head to class. Breakfast doors close at 8:00 am and breakfast is stopped being served.

At 8:00 am, our car rider team leaves their duty to begin working with their students in the classroom. If you arrive after 8:00 am, please park and walk your children to the door to check them in as staff will not be outside.

Tardy is 8:05.

***Parents, please do not drop your children off in the back as the staff is not posted to let your children in the building.

Lunch Visits ON HOLD!!!!

IMPORTANT:

Due to our numbers rising for COVID 19- we will be holding off on our lunch visitors. We will continue to monitor and keep you informed.

This week we have had quite a few students and staff go home due to COVID.

Student Information

  1. Attendance is a priority and a state and federal requirement. Students are to be in class 90% of the school year. We will help monitor this and contact you if your child is getting close to not meeting the 90% rule.
  2. We still have our bottle fillers that your children may fill with water throughout the day.
  3. Just like last year, we do not have walkers due to safety concerns.
  4. Parents, please bookmark the Home Access Center for your student for easy access. This is where you can check your child's grades and attendance.

Lost and Found

Located in the cafe on the stage

If your child has forgotten or lost an item, you are welcome to come in and check lost and found.

Your child is welcome to look at the items during their breakfast or lunch. If you would like to look for yourself, please call the front desk to schedule to come to the campus between 8:30-10:00 am. We will be glad to have a staff member help you search for your child's items.

At the end of each month, items will be donated.

**Helpful Tip: Please label your child's belongings. If we find it, we will make sure it gets delivered to the student.

Birthday Options

Birthdays are celebrated at Hancock during lunch.

Our cafeteria is wonderful and offers the opportunity to purchase cookies or ice cream for the entire class for your child's birthday.

If you would like to purchase the items for your child and their class, please talk to the cafeteria manager: Marisol Rodriguez at 281-89-4523. She will be happy to set you up on the day of your choosing.
