Collins High School
Mr. Rich Baltzell
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
Hello! I would like to have the opportunity to be your Site Based Decision Making Council
member for the 2016-2018 school year. I am married to Pam and we have 2 children, a
sophomore at MLCHS and a seventh grader at West Middle School.
I have served 4 terms on Simpsonville Elementary SBDM, 1 term on West Middle SBDM. I
was also the Simpsonville Elementary PTO historian for 9 years. During that time, we were
instrumental in hiring a principal and in raising over $50,000 to make Simpsonville the first
elementary school with all Smart classrooms.
Currently I am serving as your MLCHS SBDM council member. My policy is to help all
students get the best education possible. My cell phone is always on to talk to parents about
any issues they may be having or ideas they may have for improving our school.
Mr. Harry Bratton
I would humbly appreciate your consideration and support as I have made the decision to be a candidate to serve on the SBDM Council for the 2016 to 2018 term. This is very important to me and I am very excited for the opportunity to give back to our citizens of MLCHS.
It is imperative that we strengthen our advocacy and focus on ALL of the students' needs. A council that is committed to strong & intentional collaborative efforts around the issues that impact our student body the most, will produce better outcomes that will influence their development as honorable, responsible & productive adults in our community.
I'm a proud father of three, one of which is a MLCHS student. I have lived in Shelbyville since 1995. I am extremely fortunate for the positive experiences my son had during his years at Simpsonville Elementary School and West Middle School and I have a strong desire for him along with his peers to continue having these experiences at MLCHS. For the past 9 years, I have been heavily involved in our community's Boy Scouts Of America program where I continue to make a lasting, positive impact on the development of the boys and young men in our community. Combined with my experience, commitment and desire for our young people to succeed, as SBDM Council Member, I will bring a fresh look and energy into shaping the success of our children's future.
I appreciate your consideration and ask for your vote.
Mr. Barry Steven Chase
My name is Barry Chase, and my son will be a junior next fall. I believe parental support is a valuable component of any successful school community. As a parent of a Collins Band member, I have been deeply involved in a variety of activities from fundraising and band competition support, to that of building and maintaining the Collins Band website (www.titan-thunder.com). I am also an active volunteer, along with my wife and son, with the local Trap-n-Release program called CatSnip. In my personal career as a technical leader within Information Technology, in addition to what has already been stated, I am confident that I will bring to the table a vested and committed approach towards the future education and opportunities for our student population as a whole. I believe all MLCHS students can be successful. I will do my best to make decisions that keep students first; with their education, safety, well-being and future. I would like to ask for your support as I run for the SBDM council for the 2016-2018 term.
I appreciate your consideration and support.
Jay Hodge is pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville where he has served for eight years. He and his wife, Beth, have two daughters in Shelby County schools. Kate (15) is a freshman at Collins; Kelsey (12) is in the 6th grade at West Middle.
As his daughters have moved through the school system, Jay has been an active volunteer in their schools. He was named Volunteer of the Year at Painted Stone Elementary in 2015, where he continues to volunteer as a reader with first grade children. He also coached the PSE Science Academic Team for three years. He currently coaches an Odyssey of the Mind Team at West Middle School and supports the band boosters at Collins High School.
