Speaking of grades...IT IS SUPER IMPORTANT THAT A STUDENT'S GRADE IN YOUR CLASS IS A REFLECTION OF THEIR MASTERY OF THE COURSE'S CONTENT. Be sure what they are earning in your class shows the level of work and understanding of the content.

Early Release for Staff Development on October 8!

Students will be dismissed at 11:10 (following their 6th period class). Lunch will be offered in the lunchroom for those who want it and bus riders. Bus riders will go to the MAC at 11:45. We will have four sessions offered for professional development...you need to choose 3 of them. The four we chose were based on walkthrough data. Please choose your three using your individual data. Sessions will last 45 minutes and will be from 1:00 - 3:30 pm.

Session 1: Games Be Gone - Engaging your students using the iPad - Randy Mathisen - MAC

Session 2: Turning up the heat - how to make your lesson full of HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills) - Suzy Lofton in Brandon Grant's Room

Session 3: Let's Give Them Something to Talk About (Purposeful Talk) - Eric Holt in Brad Kassell's Room

Session 4: The Frame Game - How Framing the Lesson Increases Student Performance in Your Classroom - Heather Stoner in Diane Bode's Room

You need to email me your choices by Friday, October 3. After that time, I will assign you. Thanks!

Curriculum Night is Wednesday!

6:00 - 6:30 – Ice cream social (toppings provided by Social Studies department)

6:30 – 6:45 – Message from principal and Randy – Parent Portal, Canvas – MAC

6:45 – 7:30 – Students bring iPad and roam at-will, realizing that signatures = opportunities for their teacher to get a gift card!

Rooms should have –

1. Slide show or video playing in the background of what’s been going on in classroom.

2. Students and parents will come in, starting at 6:45-ish. They will have a chance to meet the teacher, look at what they’ve been doing in class, ask questions, and set up conference if more time is needed to talk.

PSAT - Don't Forget!!

This year, students in grades 9, 10, and 11 will be taking the PSAT at school on Wednesday, October 15. Testing will start at 8:00 am. Seniors will still attend school, so those of you with primarily senior-level classes that morning will not be used as test administrators. Mrs. Slaughter will talk more about specifics at our next faculty meeting (October 1).

Tardy Policy - important to read!

Student arrives in your class from:

tardy bell - 15 minutes into class: tardy

16 minutes after tardy bell - dismissal bell: absent

There have been rumors or perhaps factual accounts of this rule being 20 minutes, but we all need to be on the same page and it's up to 15 minutes, tardy and over 15 absent.

Also, COUNT STUDENTS TARDY. If you don't give them a reason to be on time, many of them will not.

START CLASS WITH A MEANINGFUL, NOT TEACHER-DIRECTED ASSIGNMENT. If you don't give them a reason to be on time...yada, yada, yada. But, it also gives you some time to take attendance and take up homework and do other class management-things (and it's Harry Wong-endorsed, so it must be a good idea).

Pep Rally Schedule:

9/26 @ Groesbeck - no pep rally
10/3 open week
10/10 @ Florence - Country pep rally
10/17 vs. Rockdale - Pink out/Circus pep rally
10/24 @ Cameron - Rock & Roll pep rally
10/31 @ Academy - Halloween pep rally
11/7 vs. Troy - Super Hero pep rally

All pep rallies at 9:00 am in the gym.

Don't Forget that your compliance videos are due by October 14!

Character Ed Talks - mark your calendar!

One of our district-wide focuses this year is on building student character. Alan Haire will be speaking to our students monthly about different character traits. This month, he will be speaking to students during athletic periods. If you have students from the noted grade levels during these times, they will leave your class to go to the MAC, so, be prepared to lose students.

8:45-9:30, Tuesday, September 31 - Grade 10

8:45-9:30, Wednesday, October 1 - Grade 11

2:10-2:55, Wednesday, October 1 - Grade 9

8:45-9:30, Thursday, October 2 - Grade 12

Please feel free to join us so you can hear the message! It's good stuff!

CIP - Where do we go from here?

Last meeting was to get your team familiar with your team's part of the bigger CIP. Did you look at the strategies and make sure they were getting done?

You also were to start looking at the data.

The next meeting, you will answer all the questions on your comprehensive needs assessment.

Then, you will review the need for each of the existing strategies...are they appropriate? Do they address the needs you discovered when you completed the needs assessment?

So, you will come up with a new and improved plan and a member of your team will present it to the Campus Education Improvement Committee. From there, the CEIC will make recommendations on which of the strategies deserve priority (because there is only so much time and money to go around).

And next year, we follow the same process. Continuous School Improvement...it's what's for dinner!

Referrals? Just in case you need it!
