A Note from the Principal
Dear SPB Families,
In a little over a week, we will kick off Catholic Schools Week 2022 with Mass on Sunday, January 30 at 10:30 a.m. Following Mass, join us for our Open House. The theme from last year continues: "Catholic Schools: Faith. Excellence. Service." Our Open House is for current parents as well as prospective parents, so please invite a family member or friend who might be interested in our school. Don't forget we have a New Student Referral Program where you can earn a $100 tuition credit next year for new students who enroll. Thank you to those who have already filled out a referral, and we look forward to sharing what makes SPB such an amazing school and parish community with prospective students and families!
Catholic Schools Week (CSW) is a busy but exciting week for our students, faculty/staff, and families. It is an opportunity for our school as well as Catholic schools across the country to celebrate our students, our families, and our school. Be sure to check out the CSW Calendar of Events. We are thankful that you value Catholic education!
Also, don't forget to complete registration/enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year! Those who complete online registration and submit the registration fee by Tuesday, January 25 will be entered into a drawing for $100 in Schoolbelles gift certificates! If you are considering enrollment for your child in our preschool, it is imperative that you submit registration as soon as possible. Our preschool fills very quickly, and next Thursday registration will open to families outside of our school.
Finally, a health inspector from the Cuyahoga County Board of Health visited our school yesterday. She was very complimentary of the mitigation strategies we have in place to keep our students safe and healthy. We were pleased to receive such positive feedback from her while she walked around the school. Stay warm as it seems we are in for a stretch of some very cold weather!
Peace and blessings,
Diane Raguz, Principal
Enroll Me FAQS
Q: I don't believe I have a log in for Gradelink; how can I get one?
A: Email or call the school office and we will email it to you.
Q: Where can I find the "Re-enroll" tab?
A: Once you log into Gradelink, the "Re-enroll" tab appears along the left side. If it does not appear, be sure you are logged in under your parent account rather than the student account. Also, you must use a desktop or laptop device to complete the process; the mobile app will not allow re-enrollment.
Q: Once clicking on "Submit," are parents able to access the information to edit or to print documents?
A: If you believe you made an error, please email the school office and we will review the submitted information and make changes for you. Printing of documents is not an option in the system for parents at this time.
Q: Is my child's (grades 1-8) enrollment complete once I click on "Submit?"
A: Enrollment is not considered complete until the $225 registration fee is received by the office.
Q: Is my kindergartener's enrollment complete once I click on "Submit?"
A: The enrollment process is complete once you submit the $225 registration fee; however, all incoming kindergarteners must go through kindergarten screening before final acceptance.
Q: Is my preschooler's enrollment complete once I click on "Submit?"
A: The application process is complete once you submit the registration fee for the particular program in which you are interested; however, your enrollment is not complete until you receive an official acceptance (a hard copy) from the school office.
Q: Can I send one registration check for my preschooler and my K-8 students?
A: Please send one check for all students in K-8, and a separate check for preschool. You may submit them in the same envelope, but put the student name/s on each check.
Q: What if I change my mind about my tuition payment plan after submitting my enrollment?
A: Please email the school office and we will make changes for you.
Q: I have a new student to enroll at SPB; how do I add them?
A: Existing families that have children already in the school can add other children not currently enrolled. Because they are enrolling a new student, they will need to create a temporary registration account for registering the new student as the information for the new student is not yet in Gradelink. This is the same process that prospective families go through when enrolling their children. Keep in mind that the login credentials used to log into their Parent Portal will not work here.
Parents will log-in to their Parent Portal using their Gradelink login username and password.
They will then click the Re-Enroll tab on the left sidebar.
They will click the Have a new student to enroll? link at the top right of the page.
They will then follow the steps outlined in Enrolling a New Student.
More Catholic Schools Week Information:
We will be Celebrating our Nation during Catholic Schools Week on Thursday, February 3. One way we would like to do this is by honoring our active military members during morning prayer.
Please send us the names of friends or family members who are currently serving our country in the United States Armed Forces so that we can honor them. Our broadcast booth announcers will read these names during prayer, and we will also have them displayed on our green screen.
Names can be sent to Mrs. Klepcyk at sklepcyk@saintpaschal.com by Monday, January 31.
Thank you!
2022 Scholastic Writing Award Winners
Saint Paschal Baylon School is very proud of the creative writing talents of our junior high students. Two eighth-graders have won recognition in the 2022 Scholastic Writing Awards.
Since 1923, this national contest presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers has recognized the creative talents of young adults in grades seven through twelve in a multitude of categories. Past winners have included the likes of Ken Burns and Stephen King. Students across America submitted approximately 100,000 original works.
Eighth-grader Lorelei Koeberer won the 2022 Gold Key Award for her work entitled “Sweep of Spring” in the Poetry category as well as Honorable Mention for her work entitled “Birds of Winter” in the Poetry category.
Eighth-grader Lauren Uzzo won the 2022 Gold Key Award for her work entitled “Love by the Tracks” in the Flash Fiction category as well as Honorable Mention for her work entitled “A Christmas to Remember” in the Short Story category.
The Gold Key Award is given to writing that demonstrates the highest level of achievement in originality, personal voice, and technical skill. Both students created these poetry and prose pieces for their English classes devoted to poetry and narrative writing. These works will be forwarded to New York for national consideration.
These junior high students were invited to a reception held at The Cleveland Institute of Art on Saturday, January 15, 2022, to view their displayed work and to receive their certificate and gold key.
The ability to delight in the written word and to hone a well-crafted poem or narrative is such a gift for these award-winning St. Paschal Baylon creative writers!
Conversations with Your Child About Social Media
Social media use comes with both benefits and risks. Having conversations with youth about their behavior online is important to their overall well-being and safety. This resource provides parents and families with information about helping youth stay safe and practice appropriate behavior online. Parents and adults can use these helpful tips when starting a conversation with youth about social media use, including participation in social media challenges, and support them in healthy decision making.

Registration for the 2022-2023 school year will take place soon, and we have already heard from some prospective families. Be sure you and they are aware of our New Student Referral Program. See the details below.

Playground Volunteers Needed-Grades 4, 3, 2
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:15 am-12:50 pm. There are many, many time slots open! We are so grateful for the help!
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:10 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting the students to and from the school doors. Volunteers will be with one school staff member each day to help direct.
Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
COVID-19 Volunteer Protocol: all recess volunteers are required to wear a mask when in the building.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the following links to sign up: Grade 4. Grade 3, Grade 2
