Reading
This week we will begin studying biographies. We will consider the characteristics of biographies and think about how we can use the text features to support our learning.
Writing
Students will be revisiting essays in January. This week we will have a refresher on the structure of essays and strategies we use to plan. Then we will take a close look at elaboration techniques used to help raise the level of our writing. We will look at samples of previous student writing as mentor texts.
Social Studies
This week we will start studying the colonization of Texas by Europeans. We will study the missions that were built and the impact the new settlements had on the Native Indians. We are really excited to visit the One Room School House at the Outdoor Learning Center on January 19th. We will reenact a school day that children would experience during Texas Pioneer days. We hope that you can volunteer to help us during this unique and fun learning experience!
