BARBER BULLETIN
November 6-10, 2017
SPONSORS NEEDED
Please consider sponsoring a student leadership job if you haven't done so the 1st 9 weeks!
Here are some ideas for student leadership jobs we need at PES:
- Litter Busters: Students would help pick up trash around the campus
- Gardeners: Students would help weed and tend to the garden beds in the courtyard
- Plant sitters: Students will water indoor plans as well as potted plants in front entrance
- Energy Savers: Students will turn off TVs around the building and check teachers' projectors every Friday to save energy over the weekend!
You might have another great idea that isn't listed here - all student leadership jobs will positively impact our school culture.
Ready to get started? Please talk to Lindsey Perez or any member of her action team for an application and job posting for the Leader Board.
Professional Parrot Interviews
As part of our Red Ribbon Week celebration, our 5th grade students participated in an interviewing contest. Ten judges from our community came and spoke with all 87 5th grade students and scored them based on professional appearance, introducing themselves, conversation skills, and confidence. This competition was a fun way to work on the "soft skills" our students need to be exceptional leaders! We are so proud of all of our 5th grade students for the courage and professionalism they showed during the Professional Parrot Contest.
Congratulations to our classroom winners: Briceson Frazier-Crosby, Iyana Evans, Clare Venn, Jalen Worthy, Nicholas Brantley, Rian McCallum, Jaylen Stucky, and Kimberly Morales Garcia.
Special congratulations to our top 3 finishers:
1st place: Lauren Rush
2nd place: Ashalyne Fietkau-Cortes
3rd place: Isabella Moreno Alvarado
Great job, Julie Whitney and Latoya Jeeter, for planning such a special event for our students!

BINGO NIGHT proceeds will support ARTS DAY!
We are hosting our first annual (maybe semi-annual) Family Bingo Night to benefit Arts Day next Friday, November 10th from 6-7 pm. Cafeteria Doors will open at 5:30 pm.$5.00 donation includes 2 Bingo Cards and 1 raffle ticket. Additional cards are $1.00. Any prizes not won during the Bingo Game will be raffled off at the end of the evening.
Popcorn, drinks, baked goods, and pizza slices will be available for $1.00 each.
Here is where we still could use some help! Mrs. Perez is organizing student leaders to help sell our food/drinks but we need 2 adults to help supervise the students at beverages and pizza (baked goods and popcorn are covered), 2 adults to help check-in, collect money and sell extra bingo cards, and any teachers who can help with set-up and decorations at 3:30 that afternoon.
Also - we are looking for prize/gift card donations...do you or someone you know have a business you could ask? We can supply a donation/sponsor letter, an invitation to Arts Day and will provide free advertising....
Thanks so much for your support! We are trying to come up with some different, family friendly evenings to help fund raise for Arts Day.

VETERANS DAY IS ALMOST HERE!
Our school wide Veteran's Day Celebration will be held on Friday, November 10th. We would like to have our hallways decorated to help us honor our veterans as they walk through the school in the parade. We have several options for you this year: display with individual work from your students, a class banner, or new this year, something hung from the ceilings. All displays should be in the main hallways and not in the back in the pods. Remember to not hang anything over any of the murals in the hallways. Thank you for helping us make this day special for our veterans, our students, and their families.
