A Message from Mrs. Katkocin ❤️
Dear Scotland Families,
Happy Monday and Happy Valentine's Day! This week at Scotland and across Ridgefield Public Schools, we are taking time to appreciate our amazing staff! Our week will be filled with goodies and treats to show our staff how much we love and appreciate them (see below)! We are so lucky at Scotland, as we have the most extraordinary individuals, who support and love our students as their own. ❤️
The Scotland fifth-graders are working to make the world a better place for everyone. After learning from a powerful book that some people do not have access to clean drinking water, these young change makers heard their CALL TO ACTION! Alongside the SES PTA, fifth-graders designed a series of fundraising events they dubbed “Water for Everyone.” Be on the lookout for information about the multiple fundraisers that will take place between now and mid-May. Their fundraising effort is to raise $15,000- $18,000 to build a community well in South Sudan.
In addition to fundraising, the Student Council thought it was important to educate others, especially the younger learners at SES, about why water is an important source and should be a human right for everyone. Therefore, Student Council has created Water Wednesdays, where they design and share informational videos about water with the entire school. Please enjoy this link to learn alongside your children. The Student Council hopes it starts conversations around your dinner table of how lucky we as a community have access to clean water and the importance of water on a global level. Make sure you are on the lookout for upcoming Water Wednesday videos. Happy viewing!
Our COVID-19 screenings for families who have opted in will continue this week, Tuesday, February 15th, beginning at 8:50am. If you would like to opt your child in, kindly indicate so in PowerSchool, and notify Mrs. Martire (lmartire@ridgefieldps.net) and Mr. Crook (acrook@ridgefieldps.net). Once your child is fully vaccinated please email Aaron Crook acrook@ridgefieldps.net to remove your child from the testing roster.
Just a reminder that there will be an early dismissal on Thursday (11:40am dismissal) and no school on Friday and next week for our February Recess. Wishing you a safe and healthy week, and some relaxation in the week to come!
Kind regards,
Jill

🎶 4th/5th Grade Concert - February 15, 2022 🎶
Our 4th & 5th grade band/orchestra/chorus concert is coming up on Tuesday, February 15th. We are thrilled to provide the opportunity for students to perform in front of a live audience! Please note the times for these concerts have changed. The Fifth Grade Concert will begin at 6pm. The Fourth Grade Concert will begin at 6:45pm. There are some guidelines the district has provided for the upcoming concerts:
- Each student may have no more than two guests/audience members attend.
- Masks must be worn by all audience members regardless of vaccination status.
- All performers will be masked and spaced in accordance with RPS guidelines.
- When possible please leave space between yourself and a guest from another family.
- At the conclusion of the concert, please do not gather. It is important that 5th grade students leave in a timely fashion so that 4th grade students and their guests may enter.
If a guest is not feeling well, or has any symptoms no matter how mild, we ask that they please do not attend the concert.
According to the District mitigation strategies as determined by the local and State department of health, students who need to follow the “6-10 day mask protocol” unfortunately will not be able to participate in chorus and in the band if they play a wind instrument. Hopefully, this will impact few, if any, students.
