Jog-a-thon - THANK YOU and ... We Did It!
THANK YOU to everyone for another successful Jog-a-thon! The students impressed us all with their perseverance and can-do attitude out on the track. It was so encouraging to see the parents, siblings and grandparents out there cheering on their runners.. Thank you to our teachers, staff, Mr. Mosgrove, and our custodian, Mr. Armin, for assisting us with this event -- we could not do it without them. Thank you to our Friends of the Foundation, and especially to Fleet Feet Sports, CPK, Mira Mesa Auto Techs, Pacific Polo, Smart Solar, Christensen Realty Group, Carmel Mountain Dental Care, i-Ortho, and Jen Howard with Compass Realty, for supporting this year’s Jog-a-thon. A special shout-out goes to Bern McGovern for putting together the music playlist and DJ'ing the event.
We have completed preliminary calculations of our Jog-a-thon donations, and we have some exciting news! Our school-wide goal of raising $25,000 was met - and surpassed, bringing the preliminary grand total to $34,595! To celebrate this success, we are bringing an inflatable obstacle course to the field next month. The top fundraising student from each class will race a teacher through the course during a special assembly, and every class will have an opportunity to climb through the inflatable later that day. In addition, the top fundraising class will enjoy a Friday ice cream party! Our online fundraising platform will remain open for a few more days for any last minute donations. https://app.99pledges.com/fund/ParkVillage2020 Once we get the final numbers, including corporate matching, we will provide the final grand total. CONGRATULATIONS!

"Go First Park Village" -- The Story Behind It
By Christensen Realty Group | Dan & Deb Christensen
Shy, nervous, uncertain … do you remember being the “new kid?” Do you remember your first day at a new school, or even a new job, or moving into a new home and neighborhood?
Hi, neighbors! We’re Dan & Deb of The Christensen Realty Group and Keller Williams Realty. In addition to the two of us, our team consists of Nicole Martinez, our business manager, and Meghna Surana, our full-time buyer’s agent.
We all had a blast being at the recent Park Village Foundation sponsored Jog-a-thon! We were delighted to hand out rubber wrist bands to each student and hope you had the chance to read the embossed message on the outside of each band … it says, “Go First Park Village Penguins.” There’s a story behind that message we’d like you to know…
“Go First” comes from an interview Tim Ferriss (from his great book, Tools of Titans) did with Gabby Reece. Gabby has been named one of the “20 Most Influential Women in Sports” and is best known for her success in volleyball. She is also married to Laird Hamilton who is considered the greatest big wave surfer of all time.
During the interview Gabby said, “I always say that I’ll go first … That means that if I’m checking out at the grocery store, I’ll say hello first. If I’m coming across someone and make eye contact, I’ll smile first. Be first, because – not at all times, but most times – it comes back in your favor. People are ready, but you have to go first, because now we’re being trained in this world to opt-out – nobody’s going first anymore.”
That first day at a new school, a new job, and new community … someone saying “hi, welcome,” someone “going first” can bring a smile, lighten the load and make all the difference.
At the Christensen Realty Group we strive to “GO First!”

Secrets of the Ocean Deep
By Rohan Banerjee
While the ocean is calming to look at,
it hides many treasures in its depths.
My Poem talks about looking beneath the surface,
to look within, and find the qualities that
are often hidden at first glance.
The ocean’s surface is very beautiful,
But underneath is much more wonderful!
There are huge schools of wonderful fish here…
Be sure to come down with your gear.
There lies a colorful ocean floor,
With plants, corals and animals to adore
So many seahorses swimming around
Lots more secrets to be found!
Look! It’s a shark that’s hungry for food,
And it sure isn’t in a very good mood!
You will see a manatee following a rainbow
school of fish
Passing by an angelic seahorse that will make
you want to wish!
Look all around! Such wondrous things!
So much discovery to the world this brings!
The surface is beautiful,
But you will regret
Never looking inside
At this Awesome Secret.

Volunteer Opportunities for 2019 - 2020
Park Village prides itself on our programs and events. However, they are all run by parent volunteers, and we need your help! We have opportunities of all types and sizes. Even one hour once a month can make a difference!
- Library - Help reshelve books. This task is constant and can happen any time of day. Perhaps you can help after morning drop-off or while waiting to pick up your child in the afternoon? You can make a difference in as little as 15-20 minutes. I just need folks to stop by regularly. Many hands make light work! No experience is required. If you’re interested, please email me at sfleming@powayusd.com, or stop by the library to chat.
- Recycling - Help sort and crush recycling. Second Wednesday of every month, 8-9 am, ESS Parking Lot. Even 15-30 minutes before school is a big help!. Contact Victor at pvesdads1@gmail.com.
- Science Night Volunteers - You will oversee a station while our little ones sharpen their science skills with their parents. Please sign up for a night when your own child is not attending - PV Science Night Volunteers. Contact Shannon Nellies at s.nellies72@gmail.com.
- Marquee Editor in Chief(s) - Update the marquee in the front of the school with our PVE news, and help keep our families informed! Contact Gigi in the office.
Parking Lot Reminders
Please remember that the parking lot is for teachers and staff only, with the exception of the clearly marked visitor spots. We have many support staff members whose hours begin after class is in session. When they have to spend their time searching for parking off campus, it negatively impacts our student services. Thank you for your help!
