Happy Friday Orchestra Families - Welcome back!

Happy New Year! We have definitely started off orchestra in 2016 with a BANG! New units for all students and new lesson schedules! Thank you to everyone for following the new protocols and ensuring you were at your lesson. It makes me a proud orchestra teacher knowing students are being so responsible and following directions.

The schedule for next week is as follows:

Monday (1/11) - 6th grade morning rehearsal, 8th grade lessons (ALL 8th GRADERS!)

Tuesday (1/12) - Wildcat Symphony morning rehearsal, 7th grade lessons

Wednesday (1/13) - 6th grade morning rehearsal

Thursday (1/14) - 7th grade morning rehearsal, 6th grade lessons

Friday (1/15) - NO SCHOOL (are you practicing?!)

** 8th graders - as your lessons are split between Monday and Friday, the two groups from Friday (6 cello/bass and 7 violas) can choose any Monday lesson to attend. **

6th Grade Travels Through Time!

6th graders have started a brand new unit where they will be traveling through time learning both trivia and music to correspond to the time period we are in. This is going to be in tandem with the 6th grade band and will culminate with a friendly competition between groups. Each week students will be responsible for learning a new piece of music and coming in to their next lesson ready to perform it for their lesson group. Their goal is to play it with one or lesson mistakes to earn an artifact sticker.

For homework - students need to complete the inside page of their "encyclopedia". When doing this, they must include a picture (NOT DRAWN) of themselves. Students also must practice the first eight measures of our Renaissance period song (Earl of Oxford March).

7th Grade Goes On An International Tour!

7th graders have started a brand new unit where they will be traveling around the world learning both trivia and music to correspond to the country we are in. This is going to be in tandem with the 7th grade band and will culminate with a friendly competition between groups to win the GOLDEN GLOBE! Each week students will be responsible for learning a new piece of music and coming in to their next lesson ready to perform it individually for their lesson group. Their goal is to play it with one or lesson mistakes to earn a passport sticker.

For homework - students need to complete the inside page of their "Passport". When doing this, they must include a picture (NOT DRAWN) of themselves. Students also must practice their United States song - Yankee Doodle.

8th Graders Are Our New Maestros!

8th graders are learning the art of conducting - how cool! This is in correspondence to my masters project and will culminate with some students actually conducting in our Spring Concert!

For homework - students should be reviewing their score for "The Big Race" and following along to a different part other than their own with the recording. Students should also be reviewing their conducting patterns for 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4.

New Lesson Schedules!

Attached to the e-mail are our new schedules for T2. Please remember that you are required to come to YOUR lesson. If you cannot make your lesson time due to a test, quiz, or other class project you must e-mail me ahead of time to set up a new time or you will receive a zero for your weekly lesson.
