Principal's Message

Dear Families and Friends of Boone School,

Welcome back for another great year at Boone! We are very much looking forward to seeing all of our students return to school on September 5th and get off to a great start in their new classrooms.

And for those of you who can't make it, don't worry! Our teachers are already planning several parent engagement events that will take place throughout the year.

Meet Our New Boone Staff Members!

We have several new staff members at Boone this school year. Keep reading below to learn a little bit more about them!

Joe Bialas - 6th Grade

Hi, my name is Joe Bialas and I am a new 6th Grade Teacher at Boone. While I am not teaching you will most likely find me outside fishing, playing rugby, or playing with my puppy! Can't wait for a great year at Boone!

Gerardo Zavala - Teacher Assistant

Hello, my name is Gerardo Zavala and I am excited to start my first year here at Boone as a classroom assistant. Previously I worked as an Avid Tutor at Curie Metro High School, which I also attended. I am passionate about education and learning. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, traveling, and attending Cubs games.

Mark Donlin - Music Teacher

My name is Mark Donlin and I come to Boone after teaching music at Nettelhorst (CPS) and Madison (Skokie) elementary schools. I'm originally from Pennsylvania (Go Steelers!) where I attended Mercyhurst University, then moved to Chicago to attend Northwestern University for a graduate degree in Vocal Performance. I'm certified in the Orff-Schulwerk music education method as well as ESL. In addition to singing and playing guitar, I like traveling to new places, reading, exercising, cooking, and spending time with my dog, a greyhound named Bea, and my two cats, Rachel and Cooper. I can't wait to begin making music with the students of Boone!

Patrick Herrera - Teacher Assistant

Kevin Monaghan - Engineer

Physical Education & Health Research at Boone

Hello Boone families! My name is Gabriella McLoughlin, a student at the University of Illinois, and I will be working with Daniel Boone Elementary this semester to learn about all of the amazing things this school is doing to make children’s lives healthier. For this study, I will be selecting students from 2-3 classes in the school to take part. If your child receives a permission slip for you to sign and would like to take part, please return this as soon as possible so that they can be included in the project. If you have any questions at all, please email me at: gmcloug2@illinois.edu or call at (732) 397-4905. Thank you and have a wonderful day!

School-Wide Read: "We're All Wonders" by R. J. Palacio

As we begin the year by building our classroom communities and promoting caring and acceptance of everyone, all Boone students and staff will be reading and discussing the book “We're All Wonders” by R.J. Palacio. We encourage everyone to further discuss the book’s message at home. Here is a brief review of the book:

The unforgettable bestseller Wonder, soon to be a major motion picture, has inspired a nationwide movement to Choose Kind. Now parents and educators can introduce the importance of choosing kind to younger readers with this gorgeous picture book, featuring Auggie and Daisy on an original adventure, written and illustrated by R. J. Palacio.

8th Graders: Activate Your GoCPS Account Before School Starts Next Week

It’s almost time for the first week of school, and for our 8th grade families, this also means that high school application season is right around the corner. There is so much to do before then, including reviewing the programs to which you are eligible to apply. You can access this program eligibility information now by Activating your GoCPS account. Don’t miss out on valuable research time. Activate your account now!

To begin the account activation process, visit this page:
http://go.cps.edu/

Keep in mind that “Activating” is not “Applying.” Applications will not be available until October 2, 2017, but by activating now you can complete important application preparation steps like viewing your student’s program eligibility, requesting edits and updates to missing or inaccurate student records, and saving your top programs as favorites.

If you have misplaced or did not receive your Activation Code, please contact the Office of Access and Enrollment’s call center from a telephone number on your child’s CPS student information file to have it reissued. The call center can be reached at 773-553-2060 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
