A Message from Ms. Lovejoy
Pick up time moved to 3:00
Afternoon pick up times have been going very smoothly. We were even able to add additional spots (4 and 5) to the line up so we can load up to 5 children at a time. We really appreciate all the families who have been able to transport their children to and from school so the busses remain safe with adequate physical distancing. Before school started, we knew we would need additional time for the dismissal process. Now that things have gotten into a routine, we are hoping to capture some learning time back at the end of the day by bumping dismissal time back to 3:00. You are welcome to start lining up at 2:50 and children will be dismissed starting at 3:00. We recognize traffic may back up from 3-3:10, so you may want to adjust your estimated arrival time.

Upcoming Activities at home......
October 15, 2020
Dear K-2 Families,
The purpose of this letter is to share information regarding our upcoming online diagnostic tool called i-Ready.
What is i-Ready?
i-Ready is an online program for reading and mathematics that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction.
This year, your child will be taking the i-Ready Diagnostic at home. The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning. It is not a placement test. Our teachers use the information to help them identify where to target their instruction. We plan to implement the assessment at least twice this year to monitor student progress.
What will teachers do to help prepare students for the i-Ready Diagnostic at home?
Your classroom teacher will practice logging into i-Ready with your student so that they are familiar with the application on their assessment day.
Teachers will be teaching students how to “present screen” in a Google Meet.
They will review what i-Ready is and why students are taking it as well as reassure them to try their best!
What can parents do to help prepare their student for the i-Ready Diagnostic at home?
Your classroom teacher will communicate what date and time your student should take the i-Ready diagnostic. Each session should take your child around 20 minutes but we have a window of 45 minutes just in case there are any issues that come up. There will be two sessions for Reading and two sessions for Math.
Please watch the Introducing i-Ready at Home video.
Remember- Help is not always helpful. The i-Ready Diagnostic is not an achievement test. Learning what your child cannot answer is as important as what they can answer. The purpose is to identify an accurate instructional level. Please do not answer questions for your child.
Here is how you CAN help your child with this assessment: How to help your child
Review this Checklist for Administering the Diagnostic at Home. The most important thing is to create a quiet space for your child.
Does an adult need to be sitting with my child during the i-Ready Diagnostic?
During the assessment, there will be an opportunity for you or your child to Enter and Re-enter a Google Meet to address any technical issues. Your child’s teacher will provide you with additional information about the Google Meet.
An adult does not need to be sitting with the student during the assessment but a helpful adult nearby is recommended just in case there are technical issues. The adult should not be helping answer questions or providing prompts or clues about answers. Remember- this is not an achievement test.
You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.
What happens next?
Look for communication from your child’s teacher about their diagnostic date, time and Google Meet information to address any technical issues during the diagnostic.
If you are not the adult with your child on the assigned date/time, communicate this information to the adult who will be with your child.
Ensure there is a quiet space for your child to take the diagnostic.
More information about i-Ready Instruction will be provided to families in the upcoming weeks.
Thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your child’s learning!
Sincerely,
K-2 Principals
