McNear PTA Newsletter
May 18, 2018
THANK YOU!!
As the school year comes to a close, there are some people who deserve some major shout-outs for all the energy and devotion they bring to our school community.
Our Outgoing PTA Board
I have been so blessed to work with such a dedicated, smart group of people for the past couple years. Our current Board has put in many hours making sure that all McNear students benefit from PTA efforts.
Jon Dole, thank you for taking on the huge role of Treasurer these past 2 years. You helped create a more transparent budget, always found money when new needs popped up, made sure everyone was paid on time, and were always a great voice of reason during meetings. You spent many, many, MANY hours taking care of the PTA books, and you never complained (at least to me). Thank you!
Camille Bossenberry, thank you for being the Teacher Supply Fund Treasurer these past 2 years. You were awesome in how you improved communication with teachers, encouraged teachers to spend their allotted funds, and made sure teachers got their reimbursements in a timely manner. I appreciated your involvement in meetings and willingness to question things. Thank you!
Neil Smith, thank you for stepping into the Secretary role this past year. You always showed up to meetings on time (a major must-do for a Secretary!), took fantastic notes, and didn't shy away from throwing in your two cents and help drive us toward solutions. I also appreciate your desire and efforts to include more dads in the PTA. Thank you!
Jessica Servin, thank you for serving as the VP of Membership this year. You did a great job getting the word out, collating all the information that we needed, and managing all the small details that come with the job. I appreciate you making time to help when your life is super crazy and time is short. Thank you!
Amy Anderson, thank you for being willing to be the Historian this year. I especially appreciated your contributions in meetings, where you weren't afraid to question ideas, offered possible solutions, and added a bit of levity when it was needed. Thank you!
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Harvest Festival Team Needed!
It’s time to start planning for the Harvest Festival next October. In years past we’ve had one or two leads who take this on and recruit help, but invariably no one can manage it for more than a few years (at most). Instead of having a revolving door of leaders, we’d like to create a committee that works together to make this happen. If interested in any of the following roles, please let me know (mcnearpta@gmail.com). If no one is willing to step up, then the Harvest Festival won’t happen!
Volunteer Coordinator
This person would create a Sign-Up Genius to gather all the needed volunteers for the day of the event.
Activity Coordinator
If you like to order bounce houses, climbing walls, and traveling museums, this is the job for you.
Games Coordinator
We need someone to organize the cake walk and organize/create all the fun game tables available to attendees. There is a list of past games, so you wouldn’t need to start from scratch.
Raffle Basket Coordinator
This person would communicate with each teacher and the McNear families about the raffle baskets, collect and arrange the donations, and run the raffle.
Food Coordinator
Decide what will be available to eat! We could do food trucks again, or come up with something else!
Communications Coordinator
Keep in contact with all the other coordinators and send out a concerted message in Facebook class pages and the newsletter.
FROM THE OFFICE
Lost and Found
Take a moment at dropoff or pickup to check the Lost & Found rack in front of Room 1. Anything not collected by the end of the year will end up being donated.
WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS/NEXT WEEK
Variety Show
The Variety Show is McNear’s annual showcase of student-performed music, dance, comedy, and theater. This year it will be held on Friday, May 18 with a school performance at 9am and an evening show at 7pm.
WHAT'S COMING UP
Memorial Day Holiday
There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, May 28 due to the holiday.
Last Day of School
Friday, June 1 is the last day of school, and it’s an early release day: TK and K get out at 11:45am, and grades 1-6 are dismissed at 12pm.
CONTACT ME!
Please feel free to contact me anytime with questions or comments. To submit an event or announcement to the weekly newsletter, please contact me by Thursday at 12pm.
