Meadow Creek Monday Message

March 21, 2016

Meadow Creek’s mission is to promote learning by challenging all to reach their potential

in a safe, nurturing environment by communicating, collaborating and congratulating!

Welcome Back!

I hope you had a fabulous, relaxing, entertaining, joyous Spring Break! Hopefully you had time to rest and get excited about this last stretch of the year! We have lots to do and to accomplish in the short time we have left! It is always so buy this time of you, be sure to make every minute count so your students get to where you want them to be by the end of the year!

Welcome Back Cathy

We are so very glad to have Cathy Rodgers back with us! Be sure to stop by or send her an email to say hello!

Third Grade Wax Museum

Third Grade's Wax Museum will be on Thursday, March 24 at 6:00 PM. Students will be practicing during the day and will be inviting 2nd grade to practice sharing their information. The students have worked hard on this special third grade project!

Pajama Day and DEAR Time

Since our students did an awesome job of collecting books for the HEB District Book Swap and met and exceeded the goal of 4,000 books, students and staff are invited to wear pajamas to school on Thursday and have a 30 minute DEAR time!

Several grades will be reading at 2:20 to 2:50 so feel free to join a class to read!

Please tell students this is an old fashion reading time, no electronics, tablets and such. Be sure everyone has a book in hand to read!

TELPAS Writing Samples Due

All TELPAS writing samples need to be verified by today.

Friday, March 25 is a school holiday!

STAAR Testing

We will have two STAAR testing days next week. Tuesday is 4th grade writing and 5th grade math. Wednesday is 5th grade reading.

Both days will be jeans day and we will provide lunch for the entire staff. Thank you for your support and help on these important testing days.

Student Teacher Opportunity

If you are interested in working with a student teacher next year, it is time to turn in your application. Having a student teacher is a great way for you to share your knowledge and expertise and to get some extra help in the classroom!

Every new teacher needs a great supervising teacher and that could be you! If you are interested, please see Peggy for the form. They are due by March 28.

HEB ISD Employee Banquet

We will have lots of reasons to attend the HEB ISD Banquet this year. We will be saying good bye to several friends, many will be getting service pin for 10 or more years and we want to be there to cheer on our Teacher of the Year, Cristina Roberts! If you are getting a pin, are the TOY or are retiring, you will get one complimentary ticket but you must tell Peggy you will be using that ticket. All other tickets are only $10! The Board of Trustees pays $30 for the rest of each ticket! Please let Peggy know if you are attending or if you need to purchase a ticket by March 22. I hope that we have lots of Meadow Creek friends at the banquet again this year!

Chapter 8: Improve Your Pacing

Look Forward

Even mild suspense creates tension, excitement and anticipation. You can harvest that in your classroom by using Look Forward. If you put an agenda on the board for the lesson or the morning, you can start students looking forward. If you add a catchy name to some of the topics, that seem all the more intriguing. If you call one "Mystery Activity," you can make the anticipation even more intense. You can go even farther by referring to it occasionally.

Here are some ways to refer to the future:

"Later we'll be making this really tricky, so stay with me now, even if it seems easy (or hard)."

"By the end of this class you will be able to......"

"This first step, you will want to show off to all of your friends!"
