The HHS wrestling team collaborated with our school’s Veterans’ Appreciation Club to deliver a very moving ceremony prior to a big match on Wednesday evening.
Hingham High School students won 11 awards for their work in the annual Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards competition. Tens of thousands of pieces are submitted each year. Congratulations to this year's Winners! Cat Alexander, Bella Amidei, Trevor Donnelly, Mia Nagle, Max Papaleoni and Nina Stone were all honored for pieces they submitted. With these 11 wins, the awards won by graphic design and photography students at Hingham High School totals 360 in the past fourteen years. Winning work from the Graphic Design & Photography program can be seen on the HHS Graphic Design & Photography web site.
Looking ahead…
Hingham CARES will sponsor a free painting class for teens tomorrow night.
All students will be dismissed at 11:30 AM on Wednesday 2/1 so teachers can participate in a professional development workshop about mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
Students can learn about international service opportunities with School the World at an info session at HHS at 7 PM on 2/1.
The HHS PTO will meet in Room 103 at 7 PM on Thursday 2/2; at the same time, members of HHS choral groups will perform in the All-Town Chorus Concert at Hingham Middle School.
HHS will deliver its annual “Program of Studies Night” on Monday 2/13 at 7 PM. After introductory remarks about course selection in the auditorium, parents will have an opportunity to meet with department directors and coordinators in the school cafeteria. Student volunteers will provide building tours for any interested parents.
Seniors should take the time to explore the many Town of Hingham scholarship opportunities.
Not to be overlooked, the second annual HHS Unity Week is fast approaching. Key events will include:
“Breathe Out” events throughout the day on Monday 2/6, with an Open Mic Night that evening;
a special Ninth Grade Advisory session, delivered by older peer mentors, on Tuesday 2/7;
whole-school assemblies on Wednesday 2/8;
a dance performance by OrigiNation, free and open to the public, at 7 PM on Thursday 2/9; and
the return of the “Snowball” semi-formal dance on Friday 2/10.
More details to follow!
The following message is being shared today by all Hingham principals in their weekly newsletters: “The Hingham Public Schools is convening a team of school staff, school and district leaders, students, and caregivers to serve as members of a screening committee for the position of Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. The time commitment will be two to three evenings in late February for review of resumes and interviews of candidates. If you might be interested, please send an email of interest to Susan D'Amato, Director of Human Resources, sd'amato@hinghamschools.org. Include your contact information, some background information on yourself, and reasons for your interest in serving on the screening committee.
Please note if you are not able to join the screening committee or are not chosen, there will be opportunities for families and the community to meet the finalists.”
The daily notices, the full school calendar, and the student newspaper, can always be viewed on the HHS website. Look for details on the website and in our weekly PTO newsletter.
