Week of October 16, 2023
Dear West Point Families,
It's hard to believe that we are approaching the end of 1st term and Fall Break this week. Please mark your calendars with the dates listed below that school will be closed.
We would like to thank all of the students who participated in our Martin Luther King, Jr. Speech Contest this past week. They all did a phenomenal job! We would like to congratulate the following students for winning first place in their division. They will now compete at the district level.
K-2nd division- Levi Crook
3rd-4th grade division- Kayden Reid
5th-6th grade division- Daxton Esselman
Here are four important things to know for the coming week:
- Fall Break is this week! We will have EARLY OUT on Wednesday, October 18, which is the last day of first term. There will be no school Thursday-Friday, October 19-20 for Fall Break and no school Monday, October 23 for Teacher Professional Day.
- We will be holding a Secure Drill this Monday, October 16.
- Picture Retake Day will be our first day back, which is Tuesday, October 24.
- The week of Tuesday, October 24 - Friday, October 27 is a busy one for our PTA! Please see the PTA newsletter below for information about the week's activities, which include Red Ribbon Week, the Scholastic Book Fair, and Breakfast with Buddies.

October Mission Pawssible
Please encourage your students to work on the school and PTA mission of the month!
The school's Mission of the Month is to show respect in the lunchroom. We are encouraging our students to show respect in the lunchroom by doing the following:
- Staying in their seat until excused
- Using an inside voice
- Using good table manners, including not taking other students' food
- Cleaning up their area when they are excused
- Listening to our lunchroom supervisors and following directions
Our lunchroom supervisors will be tracking positive behavior in the lunchroom. Students who meet this goal will receive a bonus brag tag at the end of the month! We would like to ask parents to help remind students about the importance of being respectful to adults and to each other in the lunchroom and other areas of the school.
The PTA Mission of the Month is to take your family to visit an assisted living center.
Halloween
Students are invited to join in our Halloween celebration on Tuesday, October 31. We will start the day at 9:05 a.m. with our Halloween Costume Parade, which will be held outside along the track in the back field. Students may wear costumes for the parade, but they need to be prepared to change out of their costumes immediately following the parade.
- Costumes should be family friendly. They may not be gory, threatening, or offensive.
- Students may not wear masks.
- Students may not carry hand-held accessories, real or pretend (i.e., wands, weapons, etc.). Crowns or hats may be worn.
- Costumes must avoid stereotypes. Students may not dress up as an ethnic or cultural group, and skin color may not be altered to look like another race. In respect to the Native American view, please refrain from dressing as Native Americans.
