Message From Ms. Appiah-McNulty
As we head into our fourth week of school, here are some reflective opportunities to support our school in moving towards the right direction for the betterment of our community.
Hallway Presence: The need for staff to be present and engaged with students during each and every transition between period cannot be stressed enough. Students thrive when given structure within the classroom and outside of the classroom. Please make yourself available to be outside the classroom during transition to provide direction to students, help them make positive choices, and maintain order of expected behaviors. If staff is not present during transition, individual conversations of support will be conducted with administration. We create the environment we want and that requires as stated before, ALL Hands On Deck. Review the image below (pg.3) on what active supervision means. Link attached provides a video for more support.

Discipline Support: Our PBIS/ Discipline Team will be meeting on September 13, 2019. The goal for our meeting is to review our discipline procedures for the current year and see how we can make it more aligned with the district’s vision of restorative practices and inclusion of PBIS. Bottom Line: In order for our students to meet academic benchmarks, students must be present in the classroom for 90% or more of core instruction. How can teachers support in this initiative? Here are some basics as we have discussed at the start of the year. Please use our behavior matrix to teach expected behaviors, conference with students to teach appropriate behaviors, call families and maintain a phone log, invite family for a conference with you and the student to create a behavior plan, include an administrator for more support during that parent meeting. Use this link (http://www.pbisworld.com/) to drill down for specific behavioral support such as disruptions, student impulsivity, disorganization, disrespect and many more.
Lastly, please review the document for Parent Teacher Conferences on September 9, 2019. The process has changed to make this time with parents more meaningful. Please see me for any questions.
Welcome New Staff!
This week, we welcome Clinton Lewis to our RMS Team! Clinton will be teaching EAST and Social Studies. Please support him as he settles in as this will be his first year of teaching. Additionally, we plan to add 1 more special education teacher this week. Administrators will work on setting up interviews by Thursday of this week! We believe this will complete the rest of the hires for 2019-2020 school year. :)
Meet Mr. John Bagby (RMS Assistant Principal)
John Bagby is a graduate of Bryant High School and has mostly lived in central Arkansas his entire life. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Sam Walton College of Business. Originally an education major, John knew that a career in education was in his future and completed a Master of Education in Secondary Education from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.
He has also completed a Graduate Certificate in the Superintendency from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. John is currently working to complete a dissertation from UALR which will be the capstone task in pursuit of the degree of Doctor of Education in Educational Administration.
In his free time John enjoys spending time with family, keeping up with the Razorbacks, hunting, fishing, and summer vacations on the gulf coast. John is married and has two children, a boy and a girl. He has worked in education for 10 years with 7 of those years in the Pulaski County Special School District at Mills University Studies High School where he most recently worked as Assistant Principal. The most valued endeavor to John in the educational setting is relationships. They are truly the building blocks to teaching and learning.
