February 2014 Newsletter!

Dear First Grade Family,

This is the time of year that the children have anxiously awaited! Your child will be bringing home his/her first report card for first grade. We will be celebrating the 100th day of school as well. It is hard to believe that the children have been here that long!

Important Dates:

Groundhog Day - 2/2

Report Cards Issued - 2/7

Book Orders Due - 2/6

No School - 2/14, 2/17 & 2/18

Optional Conference Scheduled - 2/18

100th Day of School - 2/20 (tentative date)

ILA Update

Please continue to read over the blue “Home School Connection” letter that comes home each Monday. This will help you stay in the loop of what we are covering that week in ILA. Also, please review the Robust Vocabulary and High Frequency Words in your blue at-home folder. Some of these words may be able to be incorporated into your daily conversation.

Math Update

We will spend the beginning of February on Unit 5. After this unit is complete, the children will be taking a mid-year math assessment. Please continue practicing math facts with your child. Remember that Xtra Math is a great resource!

Science and Social Studies

We have several important topics to cover this month. We will be learning about Dental Health, Groundhog’s Day, Valentine’s Day and Presidents (Lincoln and Washington). We will also spend February 20th celebrating the 100th Day of School (weather permitting). Don't forget the special homework assignment regarding the 100th Day of School!

A Special Note about Valentine's Day

You will find a class list for Valentine’s coming home today. If your child would like to bring in cards for the entire class, please make sure that your child prints each child’s name on the front of the envelope. This will make it a lot easier when we pass out the cards.

Have a Lovely February!
