Welcome Back!
We are so excited for a new school year! It's been an exciting new adventure for us. We implemented a 1:1 initiative, had our first ever fifth grade only day, and celebrated the once-in-a-lifetime Solar Eclipse!
As we start this new school year, we'd like to review a few procedures.
Drop-Off Locations:
Arrival to School: Students are allowed to start eating breakfast at 7:05. Students in 5th and 6th grade may eat breakfast in the cafeteria, wait on the floor in front of the lockers in the team area, or go to the library between 7:05-7:30. Students in 7th and 8th grade may eat breakfast in the cafeteria, wait on the gym bleachers, or go to the library from 7:05-7:30.
Attendance: Please call 531-299-2328 to report your student's absence. You may also call the main line at 531-299-2320 and choose option #2.
Agendas: All students should carry agendas at all times. Reminder, that students in the hallways during class time will always need a pass from their teacher. Our Bobcats have done a great job of carrying agendas so far this year. Keep it up!
Gum: Buffett Magnet is a gum free zone. Please keep gum at home.

Laptop Reminders
Device Agreement
Please be sure to read through the OPS Parent/Student Device Agreement with your child. Infractions of the user agreement will result in a consultation with your child's grade level administrator and possible assigned consequences per the OPS Handbook and Code of Conduct.
Charge Laptops Nightly
It is very important for your child's success at school to arrive everyday with a fully charged device. Responsible charging was part of the user agreement all students signed. Please help your child adhere to this procedure on a nightly basis. One very bright teacher suggests packing your backpack before bed, sitting it beside and outlet, and plugging it in. In the morning, your child can simply unplug, pack the charger, and head off to school.
Backpacks
Laptop sleeves are on there way to make carrying devices from class to class easier. In the meantime, please ensure your child uses a backpack to carry their device to and from school. Until the laptop sleeves arrive, your child will leave his/her charger in their backpack and only use when needed as directed by a teacher.
NO Stickers, Please!
We understand that your child's device looks like every other child's device. However, the user agreement developed by Omaha Public Schools states that the student will not, "Mark, deface, or place stickers on the tablet, laptop, or district-issued cases." If you or your child has adhered stickers of any kind to the device, please work to remove them.
At Orientation Night all devices were suppose to be labeled with your child's first and last name. We are working through any students that missed that station and hope to have all devices labeled soon. When your child receives their laptop sleeve, you may put a luggage tag or tie a string on the zipper to help your child quickly recognize their device.

Does Your Child Still Need a Laptop Assigned to Them?
We are working diligently to assign laptops to students that were unable to pick them up at Orientation Night. In order to receive a laptop, your child needs to turn in a correctly completed OPS Device User Agreement. Please be sure to initial all boxes, mark yes or no to your choice of purchasing the optional protection plan, sign and date the document, have your child initial all their boxes, and sign the student portion. Be sure to include the $20 payment if purchasing the optional protection plan. Each day we will assign laptops to students that turned in their paperwork the day before (ex. Turn paperwork in on Wednesday, get device on Thursday). We will call students to the library to give them their laptops and make sure they are able to connect to the network on their device at school. We ask for your patience as we work through this process.
Grading Changes for 2017-18
Last year the district piloted an adjusted grading scale in select courses. This year the piloted grading scale is in effect for all classes. Please visit the following website for more information about the grading changes:
Activities, Activities, and More Activities
Did you ever wish you had access to what's happening at Buffett but you were not at a computer to look it up? Now, there's an app for that. To view activities, find the app rSchool available at the App Store or Google Play.
There may be more than one with this name. You're looking for the one with a baseball cap logo. Once installed, find Nebraska, then OPS Middle School Conference, then Alice Buffett Middle. All activities will be on the calendar here, as well as any cancellations, or changes.
If your child is in an activity, such as a sport, you may wish to have notifications. This is done on the computer by going to the RSchool website. Once you are on the website,
- Locate and click on "Notify Me"
- Create an account
- Choose the activities for which you'd like to be notified.
Lunch Reminders
When sending checks to school to pay for lunch, it is helpful to include the student's name and ID number on the check.
You are also able to pay for school lunches online at www.schoolcafe.com. School Cafe provides the following services:
