Every Tuesday from 4:15-5:45PM
We will merge cooperative learning strategies with the principals of design thinking during this 16 hour course. Participants taking this course will leave with knowledge on how to:
- Facilitate Genius Hour
- Use design thinking to transform teaching and learning
- Rethink the classroom environment as a space of open-ended exploration & creation
- Transform professional practices of working differently
- Teach creative thinking
- Employ technology via student choice
- Fail fast AND move forward
How many Internal University credits will I receive if I attend this course?
- 1 Internal University credit will be presented to all who successfully complete the course requirements.
What is the cost for those who want to attend for Internal University credit?
- $110 per person per credit hour
How many CPDUs will I receive?
- 16 hours of CPDUS will be available.
Can I get paid the hourly rate if I want to attend but don't want Internal University credit?
- Staff choosing not to receive credit will be paid $14 per hour for each of the hours of the course requirements at the conclusion of the course.
Expectations
Participants will meet for an hour and a half from 4:15-5:45 each Tuesday starting September 15th. Here are the tentative topics:
9/22 Day 2: Collaborating on "needfinding" & gaining understanding
9/29 Day 3: Yes, and! Making ideas tangible - moonshot thinking
10/6 Day 4: Applying knowledge to plot a course of action
10/13 Day 5: Learning demands - interactive & flexible spaces
10/20 Day 6: Experiment mode - feedback & iteration
10/27 Day 7: Crafting a story - production mode
11/3 Day 8: Sharing findings, pitches, & next steps
Participants will also be required to produce weekly blog entries pulled from essential questions provided during the course. Throughout this course, participants are also encouraged (but are not required) to partake in a passion project and/or facilitate genius hour in their buildings.
