The Manning Weekly Newsletter
April 3, 2020
Dear Families,
I am sure you all saw the communication from Dr. Glass that we will not return to our school building this year. Although I understand and support this difficult decision made by school districts across our state, I am heartbroken that we will not have the chance to see our kids and say goodbye to our extraordinary 8th graders before they move on to high school.
I will send updated and more detailed information about our scheduled events in the coming days, but here are our initial plans:
- "Meet and Greet" will be adjusted to an online setting so that incoming families have the information they need to get ready for next school year. Details will be sent to those families via school messenger sometime next week.
- Mr. Ramaker, PTA and I will have a conversation about rescheduling the Manning Family Barbeque for sometime next August, as we return to school. Please look for details about that after the PTA meeting on April 21.
- Willy Wonka performances will be rescheduled. Mrs. Mendez will send details on Monday, April 6.
- Vocal Music Pops Concert will happen virtually. Students in Choir and Images will all receive a keepsake video recording of their performance of four songs as a celebration of their extraordinary year! Mrs. Mendez will send more details on Monday afternoon (Apr 6).
- Mr. Miller will be in contact next Monday afternoon (Apr 6) with Band and Orchestra families regarding the instrumental music pops concerts.
- The other Mr. Miller will be in contact on Monday afternoon (Apr 6) with guitar families regarding guitar night.
- Continuation will be hosted on a virtual platform. We know how important it is to celebrate our wonderful 8th graders in a meaningful way. More details to come in next Friday's newsletter.
Furthermore, I know that many of you may have questions about getting belongings out of lockers/classrooms/lost & found, etc. I will wait for district guidance about these kinds of requests and questions. I hope clarity will come soon. If you have an urgent need to get something from school, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. We will coordinate a time to meet you.
In closing, thank you all for your partnership and your support of your students while they engage in learning at home. I appreciate all that you're juggling right now, and I am grateful to those of you who have reached out with your feedback about online learning.
Here is a summary of the feedback I've received from you all about our online learning procedures, in order of frequency:
- It would be great to have more opportunities for students to interact with their teachers and each other through Zoom or Google Meet.
- We'd love to see more video lessons from teachers.
- Please have grace and flexibility for kids in regards to assignment expectations and grades, as they don't have the same access to teachers and the support they need to do their best work.
- Managing electives is hard, especially when we have more than one on the same day.
- Having assignment completion as the way to take attendance has caused stress around the deadline. It might be helpful to find another way for kids to show they're engaged and "present" for school.
I have shared these concerns with staff, and we have conversations scheduled next week to troubleshoot how to be responsive to students' needs. The last thing we want is to add stress to an already stressful time. Please know that we hear you, and we are working to get better.
Encourage your student to reach out to their teachers if they are overwhelmed or if they don't feel able to complete an assignment. We are committed to being flexible and understanding as we all figure this out together, and your communication with us helps us to find the right balance of growth and grace.
If you have any questions, or additional feedback, or even if you'd just like to say hello in this crazy time, please don't hesitate to call me at 720.445.5324. I look forward to connecting with you.
Thanks, as always, for sharing your kids with us. It is our honor to serve them.

Students: Having trouble finishing an assignment? We're here to help!
If you're having trouble getting an assignment completed, here are some additional supports we have in place:
- Reach out to your teacher and let them know you're working on it. They will count you present and work with you on a due date that's manageable.
- Check your emails! The front office staff will email students directly if they've missed something with an offer to help. If you respond to that email, we'll know they're working on school, mark you present, and get you the support you need!
