Franklin Middle School
October Newsletter 2022
Principal's Message
Hello Franklin families,
First Quarter is flying by. We just finished our midterms and are on our way to Finals. The end of the quarter is on October 27th. We hope you encourage your students to speak to their teachers and ask questions about classwork and assignments.
It has been an excellent start to the school year, our students are outstanding, and FMS kids are great at being respectful, responsible, and safe. We are making plans to offer more support for students, and you will get notifications on ParentSquare as to what those supports are.
Our staff is working hard to ensure students learn and feel supported. We believe that we are all continuous learners, and adults, like children, learn something new daily. This learning may be new ways of engaging students in the classroom or finding new ways to help your students understand the content being taught. New learning happens every day in many ways, and that is why the FMS staff developed the mission: WE ENSURE THAT EVERYONE LEARNS AT HIGH LEVELS.
We hope you have a fabulous October.
Thank you for supporting Franklin Middle School,
Andrew Espindola
Interim Principal
Franklin Middle School
PBIS NEWS
BOLT STORE OPEN
We have opened our PBIS BOLT Store. We encourage teachers to recognize positive behavior daily by giving students our PBIS Rewards incentive called a BOLT. Students can collect BOLTS and spend them at our BOLT Store, which will be open every Friday.
Our Grand Opening was held on Friday, September 30th and it was met with a positive reception. Our students were excited about the items that were being sold, they were excited that they could use their BOLTS to buy items of high interest to them. Some of those items include snacks, keychains, tumbler cups with a Franklin logo, stickers for computers and phones, and much more. We will continue to ask students what items they feel should be in our store. On the day of our Grand Opening, we had students motivated to behave positively and thanked our PBIS team members for opening the store.
We have an amazing team of staff members on our PBIS team that have made this BOLT Store possible. They have donated items to the store that students find of value. Our staff works hard to make sure that we are recognizing when students have pride in our school and are following the Franklin Way.
PBIS for Staff- Staff Drawing Winners
Franklin also recognizes our staff for promoting the Franklin Way. Here are our most recent winners.
Way to go Mrs. Petilo!
Way to go Ms. Montiel!
Way to go Mrs. Tetreault!
If you are interested in donating to our PBIS BOLT Store, please reach out to the Franklin Middle School office for more information.
Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month ends on October 15. We wanted to thank our food services department for serving posole during lunch in honor of Hispanic Heritage month. We also wanted to give a shout-out to our Counselor Mrs. Montemayor, Migrant Advocate Ms. Rodriguez and Para Educators Mrs. Santana and Mrs. Garza for helping with our Hispanic Heritage Month Display.
In Mr. Jeffery McFadden's class, students made Hispanic Heritage presentations and had the opportunity to learn about many Hispanic countries. The presentations went out for a staff vote and the winning students will receive a special lunch or reward when the vote is complete.
Migrant Education Program
The goal of the Migrant Education Program is to ensure that all migrant students reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma (or complete a GED) that prepares them for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment. The goal also includes collaboration with migratory parents and the collective community to provide a full range of services to address unique educational needs. As a support office funded through a Migrant Education state grant, the MSDRS Office plays a vital role in administering state program directives. A working agreement between the administrator of the grant (Sunnyside School District) and the grantor and program director (Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction in Olympia) ensures that all program activities are implemented.
