Center Community Chat
October 23, 2022
Dear Center Community,
Thank you, families, for the "Twix's and Treats". You always find the sweetest and most creative ways to make Center staff feel appreciated.
Fall festivities and fun were abundant at Center this week. From trips to Parlee farm, and exploration of the Garrison House, and pumpkin math fun.
We enjoyed another great community event at Center yesterday. Trunk or Treat was a huge success. Thank you to those who organized, decorated their cars, donated candy, and showed up in creative costumes to make this a festive event.
Staff Update
Congratulations to both Laura Bentley and Sarah Stuart who welcomed baby girls into their families this week. We are so thankful that all are healthy and well.
Amy Miller will be filling in for Ms. Bentley for the remainder of the year. We are still trying to secure a 4th grade teacher for Ms. Stuart's leave. Until then, Mrs. Omobono will be wearing two hats and filling in for her. While she is in this dual role, please direct all questions and concerns not related to Ms. Stuart's class to Dianna.
Email Issues
Due to recent DNS issues that Follett experienced, emails being sent from Follett/Aspen servers are being flagged as spam/malicious content predominantly by yahoo mail servers.
Our tech department is working with yahoo and other major providers to ensure that we are re-marked as a trusted provider.
Parent Event
Join us on October 27th at 7pm for a virtual South Row and Center School presentation on "Top Ten Strategies" for supporting students with executive functioning and attentional issues, presented by Cynthia Goldrich. The presentation will be 45 minutes long with unlimited time for Q&A.

Bus Push Week
Last week and the coming are Bus Push Weeks. Students can earn two points each time on the bus for keeping a voice volume of 1 and staying in their seats. Please reinforce these expectations with your students and ask how many points they have earned. The bus with the most points wins an extra recess.
Have a great week.
Warm Regards,
Dianna and Donna

Center Elementary will remain in compliance with M.G.L c 71 s 57, which requires annual growth screen measurements ( height and weight) for grades 1 and 4. This confidential screening will start in November. Parents and/or legal guardians who wish to omit this screening should contact the health office by the end of October with the request.
Thank you,
Kathy Rossman BSN RN
ALICE Drills
During the week of November 1st - November 10th our first ALICE drill of the school year. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate. This is a research based, options-based protocol that is non-sequential to respond to a dangerous individual at school.
On Thursday, October 27th, we will be hosting grade level meetings to review a PowerPoint social story and elementary video explaining the drill. We have collaborated with the Chelmsford Police and Fire Departments on this drill to ensure we are engaging students and staff in a developmentally appropriate experience.
After we conduct the drill, we will send a communication to inform you when it has occurred. Should you have any questions about ALICE or about this drill, either leading up to the drill or after you have been able to debrief with your child, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
