The Giver
By Lois Lowry
"They havent eliminated murder. They just call it by a different name."
A boy named Jonas lives in a seemingly idyllic world of conformity and contentment. There are many rules and restrictions within the world. The community in which he stays in has elections for people of a certain age. Jonas gets elected to be a Receiver Of Memory and he has no idea whats about to come. Jonas begins a revolution against his community in search for answers. He has to escape the world he's in to save himself and hi loved ones. This was a challenge no one has ever completed.
Assessment
I chose this book because it has a happy but sad story line. It is also very intriguing to read and gets you wanting to read more. The story line keeps you into the book and wanting to finish the next chapter. My opinion of the book is 8.5 out of 10 because of the it was a little slow in the beginning but increasingly got better. One of the my favorite parts in the book was when Jonas was elected to be the receiver in his community and under went a big ceremony. A reason why i liked the book was because of its setting, people living in and utterly perfect community and the atmosphere that is explained to the reader is amazing. A reason I disliked the book was its ending, it was a little to confusing but it managed to get the point across.
