One School, One Book Kick Off!!!
Our One School, One Book is Grump by Liesl Shurtliff!! The students celebrated the kick-off of this school-wide event at an assembly today where your child received a copy of Liesl Shurtliff's book. They were also surprised to hear that Liesl Shurtliff will be our visiting author on March 25th. Thank you to the PTO for supporting this family reading event! This is a fun book for all ages.
For the next six weeks, I'd like everyone to set aside a little time each night or weekend so your family can participate in this special school-wide project.
I am asking parents to read the weekly assigned pages at home with your child/children. Even if your child has read this book before, One School, One Book allows a reread to be more exciting and interactive as a family. That's right the whole family. Settle down on these winter nights to read, The (Fairly) True Tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Each Friday during homeroom, there will be time for the students to turn and talk to answer trivia questions about the book.
- Please try not to read ahead so everyone at school may participate together.
All students can enter into a twice a week raffle for chances to take home a mini dwarf. The students can take ONE picture of the dwarf on the Surface (You have to read to know what I mean! :) and write about the dwarf's adventure. The picture can be shared with Mrs. Russo via email. We will post the picture on the PTO Facebook Page and print out the photo to display it at school. Happy Reading!!
Vision Screenings
The New Jersey State School Health Program requires that vision screenings be done routinely on school-aged children. The purpose of this program is to identify students who may need further evaluation. This is merely a screening process and if your child requires further evaluation you will be notified by Mrs. Kelly.
We will be performing this screening on all 4th-grade students. Please ensure that your son/daughter has his/her glasses for school each day so they can be prepared. The vision screenings will begin on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to us via phone call or email.

Middle School Parent Orientation
FROM THE CMS HEALTH OFFICE
All 5th graders entering Chatham Middle School next year as 6th graders need to provide proof of the following vaccines.
- Tdap vaccine(tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis)
- Meningitis vaccine (Meningococcal conjugate)
This is a NJ state requirement that must be fulfilled before the first day of school unless your child’s DOB is after the first day. These immunizations are usually administered at the 11yo healthy visit. Please send the documentation your pediatrician will provide as soon as they have completed their appointment. From now - June 12th send them to Sally Kelly RN at Lafayette Health Office. Begining on June 12th send to sbutler@chatham-nj.org (email is best). Please note some physicians offices book out quite a while so plan accordingly.
Your child will not have access to their 6th grade schedule this coming summer until this document is on file in the CMS Health Office.
Thanks!
