Tree-of-Heaven (Ailanthus altissima)
DEAD OR ALIVE
The Tree of heaven is a rapidly growing tree with pale gray bark, light brown twigs and large pinnately compound leaves
The tree produces chemicals in its roots that prevent other plants growing nearby. They can spread and overwhelm natural areas and agricultural fields. Also the roots have caused damage to sewer lines and building foundations.
How to Control the Species
People dig up the trees to get rid of them but the most effective method is using herbicides.
