The Tree of Heaven can quickly colonize any forest edges, fields and roadsides. Grows best in full sun and is tolerant of drought. Currently in 30 states across the United States.

The tree produces chemicals in its roots that prevent other plants growing nearby. They can spread and overwhelm natural areas and agricultural fields. Also the roots have caused damage to sewer lines and building foundations.

How to Control the Species

People dig up the trees to get rid of them but the most effective method is using herbicides.
