Galveston ISD Newcomer Leadership Academy

Dr. José Luis Zelaya, an unaccompanied minor immigrant who went from living on top of landfills in Honduras to a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University, kicked off the 2021-2022 GISD Newcomer Leadership Academy this past Wednesday, November 10. Emergent bilingual students, teachers, and their parents were inspired, motivated, and trained in how to help achieve academic success despite language barriers and lifelong trauma.
