Principal's Update
Grizz Parents, Guardians and Students
It has been a busy week of online learning for everyone. We are continuing to refine and standardize our practices across classes each week to keep students connected, supported and learning. I want to say thank you to everyone and especially parents and guardians who are juggling learning at home with all the other demands of family life. You are appreciated.
The Oregon Department of Education came out with new guidance Wednesday, April 15, for grades 9, 10 and 11.
- For DETAILS on how the new guidance looks at AHS GRADES 9,10 and 11 CLICK HERE

We also have some Updates for Seniors this week. We've taken previous updates and consolidated them to a single document - SENIORS CLASS OF 2020 CLICK HERE . Sections highlighted in YELLOW include updates.
Both of the above documents will move to our AHS website next week. We'll send out a link when it's ready.
Have a restful and restorative weekend and catch some socially distanced sunshine if you can.
It is a great day to be a Grizzly.

BE THE LIGHT CLASS OF 2020 #BeTheLightOR
Friends of Ashland School District,
We will be turning our stadium lights on Friday nights as a symbol of hope and support for all Ashland students.
We want all of our students to know how important they are to us and that we miss them. We love and care for each of them.
On Friday nights at 20:20 military time (8:20 p.m.) we will light up Walter A. Phillips Field on the AHS campus for 20 minutes. This will start tonight and continue each Friday through May 29th (the scheduled date for graduation). The scoreboard is turned on (see attached picture) and set to honor the class of 2020. This will stay on overnight.
This is modeled after the Be the Light Movement initiated in the Colorado. Click on the link below for more information. Madras High School started it in Oregon and now at least 100 high schools across our state have committed to doing some form of this.

March Book Drive Follow-Up
At the end of February and the beginning of March I held a book drive in the main office of the high school. The book drive is a part of my senior project in which I will be donating the books to Asante Ashland Community Hospital’s patient library, with the goal of improving the time spent in recovery for Asante’s patients. I would like to say thank you so very much to everyone who participated in what was a very successful book drive! Regardless of how Covid-19 affects the school year I will finish the project over the summer, once we’re all back to business as usual. Again thank you so much to all that brought in books, I hope you are all safe and healthy in these disconcerting times!

Cap & Gown Deliveries (Previously Scheduled for April 30)
"As we all continue to navigate this rapidly evolving situation, please know that we share your concerns. We greatly appreciate your patience as we maneuver through this unique graduation season together.
Herff Jones is made up of representatives across the country. We are one of those representatives. We are a small business, run by a local family that has been doing this for over 40 years. We work together with our high schools to facilitate both the ordering and delivery of all graduation products to celebrate your achievement.
At this time, we want you to know that our primary goal remains the same. We are here to ensure that every student who has earned the right to proudly wear a cap and gown, has their time to shine and be celebrated. All of the products that have been ordered, produced and labeled with your names on them, are still scheduled to deliver to you as soon as it is possible. Our company model delivers products through distribution events at each high school approximately five weeks prior to graduation. Because our high schools are currently closed, deliveries are just going to look a little different this year. We know that celebrations will happen, and it is our goal to be ready for whatever version of graduation transpires.
At this time, we are referring to our return policy that has been in place all along. Refund requests are for non-graduates only. All refund requests must be submitted in writing by July 1st, 2020, and personalized items are non-refundable. We trust that there is still plenty of reason to celebrate and that celebrations will happen. It is our hope that this slight shift in tradition on exactly how we celebrate our graduates this year does not deter you from celebrating this amazing accomplishment.
Things will undoubtedly continue to change as we navigate these next few weeks with our high schools. Please bear with us as we do this. We are in this together.
Thank you,
Royal-T Papers/Herff Jones"

ASF Fund Drive Phoning Night - April 23 POSTPONED
Given the economic uncertainty our community is facing, ASF will be postponing our Annual Fund Drive, usually held this month, until this difficult time has passed. The Foundation is fully operational and we continue to work on organizational goals and to provide financial support to the school district to meet emerging needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
While we are not conducting our normal fundraising operations at this time, if you want to donate, contributions are always welcome and will be put to good use in our schools. For now we see our mission as one of support to the Ashland School District as it navigates the new challenges related to conducting operations online. You can donate or learn more about ASF at www.ashlandschoolsfoundation.org
