GRE Staff Newsletter

For the Week of October 22, 2018

Dear Team,

Hope you are finding ways to keep warm this chilly weekend! I think it was warmer at the OSU Hockey game on Friday than it will be at football today! I had a great week getting around and seeing all the amazing things you do each and every day. Whether it was encouraging a colleague, laughing together, or simply giving a hi five or hug. It matters folks! GRE is a special place because you are at the core setting the example.

I still have two Future Driven books to get started with a book trail. Shout out to Angie Keller for picking up a copy this week. I know it seems like life is to crazy to pick up a professional text when you have so much prep, grading, planning and the other million things going on, but I promise it is worth it. It will remind you of why you got in to education and set your sights on getting better every day. There isn't a timeline on how quickly you need to start and finish it, or that you need to read every single page in the book, just pick it up...take a look. It might be exactly what you are looking for!

Here's to another great week at GRE!

News to Share

1. This week our 3rd graders will take the Fall Ohio State Test in reading. These tests are 90 minutes in length and will begin by 9:00. This means the building needs to be as silent as possible. Don't forget that small groups will be pulled all throughout the building so even if you're not in the purple hallway, there is a good chance someone nearby is testing. Let's help create a quiet environment so that students have the best opportunity to show what they know.

2. Here are the notes from our most recent PAC Meeting. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to your PAC representative or me.

3. Great job on our evacuation drill this past week! Reminder that we will have a fire drill on October 30th which will also serve as our Emergency Test Drill.

4. The sign ups for our first Eagle Ed of the year were shared this week. Thanks to the Related Arts team for getting this up and running. Don't forget you can find all information about Eagle Ed in the team drive shared by Angie. Teacher ideas & sign up sheet links are due Friday Nov. 2nd! Be sure to look at the student interest information to make sure you plan something our students are interested in.

5. Veteran's Day is right around the corner as well on November 9th from 2:30-3:15. Be sure that you are keeping up to date with DeAnne's emails to make sure you are ready for this important assembly. We will be using an assembly schedule that day. You can find the assembly schedule in the GRE building schedule sheet below.

6. Harvest parties are this week! Please make sure you have communicated with your families that any food items need to be store bought with the label and nutritional content listed on the package. There should be no homemade food items at our parties.

7. A parent shared a concern that some older students have been using our playground while our students are on the playground at the end of the day. For the safety of our students, please make sure that if you see this happening, you politely ask the children to wait until the end of our school day to use the playground.

8. Don't forget that our dismissal adjustments go into effect tomorrow. Make sure you are prepared. I will be in the building helping facilitate these changes. Let's give it a try for a few days and then let me know if there are opportunities for improvement. Click here to read about it.

9. At the PTO meeting we discussed Box Top Collections. As a team, we need to do a better job collecting and turning in our Box Tops. This is free money for our school and is an easy way for families to contribute to PTO. Some changes that will happen to make it easier for teachers will be that on the first of the month (or as close as possible if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday), the new monthly Box Top incentive sheet will be in mailboxes. These are collected the second Tuesday of the month and I will continue to include collection dates in our staff newsletter. I will also be creating a Box Top bulletin board with a popcorn party incentive. If you have ideas or suggestions to make Box Top collections easier for our team, please let me know.

PLC Weekly Challenge

Each week Ginna and I will be giving a new PLC challenge! The goal is make time in PLC's to work on the ideas we share during Staff Meetings, in Newsletters, on monthly Menu's or ideas from vertical PLC's. We are going to try to make this something fun to look forward to, so give it a try!

Shout out to...

-Amy Mix for grabbing an Interactive Read Aloud from my table and giving it a go!

-Jody Grieger for mixing in an Interactive Read Aloud with Giraffes Can't Dance to kick off her dance unit!

We will keep the same challenge for this week. Stop by Ginna or Kate's office and grab a book that already has a completed Interactive Read Aloud form with it and give it a try. Remember, Ginna has Halloween themed books which are perfect for this time of year! We continue to add to our collections. If you have a book suggestion for us to complete the planning form for, let us know!

If you complete this week's challenge you can earn a Casual Sticker! Be sure to capture your read aloud with a photo and send to Kate!
