THE RISE OF ROBERTS
ROBERTS MIDDLE SCHOOL: August 22-27
WHY BE A HERO?
Did you know the word hero comes from the Greek word for “protector”? In the book Natural Born Heroes, Christopher McDougall writes, “True heroism, as the ancients understood, isn’t about strength, or boldness, or even courage. It’s about compassion. Empathy, the Greeks believed, was a source of strength, not softness; the more you recognized yourself in others and connected with their distress, the more endurance, wisdom, cunning, and determination you could tap into.” If you want to be a hero to those around us, you need to focus on being useful and a source of strength.
At Roberts, our students need us to be their heroes. You might be their only protector who shows them compassion each and every day. Heroism isn’t some mysterious inner virtue; it is our daily actions that we demonstrate to be the best version of ourselves. Let us RISE to the challenge of our calling as teachers; the ones who protect the dreams and hopes of every student at Roberts. Our greatest strength is our growth mindset, which is our passionate commitment to learning.
