Elementary students celebrate Native American Heritage Month with help from the Doss
Hundreds of Aledo ISD elementary students this week and last were treated to fun lessons from the Doss Heritage and Culture Center about Bison, and they got a chance to pass around Bison fur, hide, bones and bladders. Wait, BLADDERS?!?
Yep, a bison bladder - which Native Americans used as a container for liquids - is the part of the presentation where kids usually get stumped. But it really drives home the point that Chasity Walsh, the Doss Education Specialist, is trying to deliver during this Native American Heritage Month: "The main thing is that this animal was so important to the Native American people and that they used every part of the bison," Walsh said.
The Wednesday afternoon group from Walsh Elementary was eager to learn more, ask and answer questions, and make their own very astute guesses.
Thank you to the Doss for these important and impactful lessons for our students!
Annetta 4th Graders made pitch for a Dog Park
Fourth graders at Annetta Elementary School have worked hard on a project-based learning assignment to persuade someone to build a dog park, and today, a handful of the students made those presentations to City of Hudson Oaks, Texas city administrator Sterling Naron!
The students were both creative and specific in their approaches with clever dog park names, intricate designs and ideas for partnerships (a dog park with a Starbucks and McDonald's attached, anyone?) as well as specific calculations on everything from fencing to surfaces and other features.
Thank you, Mr. Naron, for your time in helping our Annetta students wrap up this exceptional learning experience!

Aledo Bond 2019 Picture of the Week
The Bond Progress Committee had a chance to meet at and tour Aledo Middle School earlier this week to continue its charge of reviewing the progress, financial status and expenditures related to implementation of the Aledo Bond 2019 program. The BPC - made up of citizens who served on the district's 2019 Bearcat Growth Committee - met in what students have dubbed "the airport" in the building, which next year will be a grade-level pod of classrooms.
