Sussex Ave: News That You Can Use

Principal's Corner

Dear Sussex Students, Parents and Guardians,

I cannot believe that we have 19 school days to go! This school year has zoomed by. We had a very busy week. Monday we had the pleasure of listening to the 4th and 5th grade chorus. They were absolutely amazing! I enjoyed listening to them sing about strong character as well as singing modern contemporary music. There is a wealth of talent in our building and community.

We have successfully completed our NJSLA Testing for ELA and Math. This coming week we have the last two days of testing for this school year to complete. Grade 5 students will be taking the New Jersey State Learning Assessment for Science (NJSLA-S) on May 28 and May 29th. Visitors will not be permitted in the building during testing times.

I hope everyone enjoyed the unofficial start of Summer while reflecting on the meaning behind Memorial Day. My heart is filled with gratitude for those fought, and their families, of loved ones lost while serving in our country. Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice.

Have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Vaccaro

Every Hero Needs A Squad

Sussex Avenue is partnering with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help fight cancer. We kicked off our Pennies for Patients Hero Squad Campaign on Friday 5/24, during our Spirit Assembly. The flyers below were sent home this week along with a coin collection box. Student Council representatives have set a school wide goal of collecting $1000.

Each classroom has a fundraising website that your friends and family can donate too OR simply collect change in the collection boxes and bring them into school.

To donate on the website visit: penniesforpatients.org/find-your-school. Find Sussex Avenue School in the search results. Select "Join a Classroom Team."

The class that donates the most money will win a Pizza Party. Along the way, students can earn the prizes listed in the information sheet below.

Thank you for helping us work towards our goal. Together we can fight cancer!

3rd Graders Work to Make our Grounds Beautiful

Students in Ms. Clark and Ms. Harris's class planted yellow and gold marigolds this week in the flower circles in the front of the building. Students had the opportunity to apply their Social Studies curriculum focused on building and helping in communities to real world experiences. The children were so excited to remove weeds, dig holes, break up roots, and plant beautiful flowers. What a wonderful job they did!! The circles look beautiful! Thank you Ms. Clark and Ms. Harris for providing such an enriching learning experience for your students while fostering a sense of pride in our school community. Bravo!!

Traffic Pattern of the School Grounds

Larger signs have been installed to assist with proper traffic patterns when navigating our parking lot. When entering the parking lot, please stay to the right. The driveway and parking lots are one way roadways. Vehicles should not be driving up the driveway to the side entrance. One way signs will be installed within a few weeks and painted arrows signaling proper traffic pattern will be completed over the summer. For the safety of all, please adhere to the traffic pattern.
