Attendance Matters
Friendly Reminders from HES Office Staff:
Morning drop off times, Tuesday-Friday 7:25-7:55.
Please continue to use one lane for morning drop off for the continued safety of students.
Students are to be dropped off on the sidewalk at the Elementary’s front entrance.
Please do not use cell phones during drop off.
At 7:55 the doors to the front entrance will be shut and locked. Staff are no longer monitoring drop off. The building sign will be placed outside that school is in session.
After 7:55 students being dropped off are counted as late. Parents are responsible for walking their child in to the elementary office doors and signing their student in.
- If you need to make a change to your child's regular routine for the end of the day, please send a note to the office. Calls are for emergencies, the school office is a very busy place, especially at the end of the day. If you have a schedule change for your student and it is last minute- please call Chellsie no later than 2:30.
Jr. Ag at HES
WOW-February was full of surprising events. We completed our soil unit and the students were very fascinated with all of the different properties of soil and they soon realized it wasn't just "dirt". We had to take 2 weeks off due to snow!
We ended the month with our annual chili supper and auction. The community helped us raise $6800 for our Junior Ag and HS Ag department. THANK YOU!
For the month of March we will be setting up our hatching units for our chick days and planting a LOT of different plants/vegetables for our upcoming "Chick and Plant" sale to take place May 1st.
We will also be working on our annual Thank a Farmer breakfast and learning about swine. Stay tuned for updates and be sure to join the Spokane Owl FB page and the Spokane Agriculture FB page.
Honor Choir at HES
What a whirlwind February we all had!
Our Valentine's concert plans fell through due to the wintry weather we had a couple of weeks ago, but we are looking to integrate our current songs into an Easter concert in early April. The Honor Choir is having fun learning songs such as Seasons of Love, All We Need is Love, True Colors, and Can't Help Falling in Love. After the Easter concert, we will be working on end-of-the-year concert materials as we have two dates on the calendar for May.
On May 12th, we will be joining the middle and high school choirs for their year end performance. Two days afterwards, on May 14th, the Honor Choir will have a showstopper performance to present at the HES Spring Carnival. Although these dates may feel quite far off, we have only 10 more rehearsals to go to accomplish our biggest performances of the year! Be sure to stay tuned in for updates!

PTO Update:
Spring is upon us! HES PTO is in full swing gearing up for the months ahead. Our March membership meeting will be next week! Tuesday March 9th, at 4:00, the meeting will be held in the FEMA building for teachers and via FB live in accordance with COVID guidelines.
Thanks to some valuable volunteers for helping provide concessions for our youth basketball players. Unfortunately, the winter storm blew in and cut the season a little short. We hope you all stayed warm and were able to enjoy the rare snowy weather!
Although delayed, Owl Kisses were delivered Friday, 2/26; a sweet treat to end the long week. Popcorn Friday for this month will fall on March 26th. Thank you to all parents that send in quarters for this. The kids really enjoy when Popcorn Friday rolls around.
HES PTO and Highlandville Elementary are excited to be partnering with 1st Day School Supplies for the 2021-2022 school year. This will allow you to purchase school supplies in a kit and have them shipped directly to the school. Supplies are tailored to each grade level’s list, and purchased through a direct link webstore. As soon as the finalized lists are approved the link will be live and we will share it with you! We hope this will be a no-hassle option for supply shopping and delivery.
