A Thoughtful Classroom Update
Living and Learning in Third Grade
Nightly Homework
Just a reminder that each night students need to be making time for reading and math fact fluency! Reading can be enjoyed independently or as a partnership! Students handed in their first 300 minute reading calendar this week! Way to go, meeting a month long goal!! Thanks for supporting your child with this monthly responsibility! For those students who did not hand in a calendar, use this month to meet or exceed this expectation! Keep moving forward! It is never too late to change your mindset!
Reader's Workshop
Students completed a pre-assessment for our first reading unit. Results will come home early next week. This unit will focus on the fiction genre. Students worked on two targets this week: learning to name the different types of fiction books and learning to use the text structure of fiction to retell a story in order.
Math Workshop
Learning targets this week were: learning to describe the value of a digit, learning to use place value to round a digit to the nearest 10, learning to use place value to round a digit to the nearest hundred, and learning to use place value to round a digit to the nearest 10 within a hundred.
Writing Workshop
Students are working to grow their personal narratives. Lessons focused on: evaluating a peer's writing piece, learning to find the heart of your story, learning to develop the heart of your story, and learning to bring out the internal story of your writing piece.
