## PBIS Update

Our PAWS Pride lesson this week focused on the Conley matrix. This is a tool that displays expectations of being safe, respectful, and responsible in different locations around the school. Each class reviewed the matrix to remind students to use their PAW behavior everywhere when in school.

## Literacy

This week we reviewed the reading strategy of inferring while learning about survival skills in an excerpt from "Island of the Blue Dolphins". Interesting vocabulary words this week were KELP and SINEW. Does your child remember what these are?

We incorporated technology into our grammar this week by writing complex sentences using both an independent an dependent clause, and selecting an image to illustrate the sentences. Class favorites seems to be talking cats and dogs. :)

In writing, students created a "how to" paragraph on a topic from a choice menu and we'll be sharing these in class. It's fascinating to see how different students explain "how to" steps for the same process in different ways! Our most popular topic was "how to take a screenshot with the chrome book and save it to your screenshots folder". Most students did an amazing job!

## Math

This week, we started GUIDED MATH!!! I'm so excited to have the chance to structure our class this way! In a nutshell, the students are divided into 3 groups that rotate through 3 different stations: (1) Small group lesson with me, (2) in-class practice/independent work, and (3) chromebook work on Xtra Math and a program called Front Row. A huge "Thank You" to our new instructional coach, Ms. Malinger, for helping me roll this out! She even worked with the students to create story problems on Padlet, which we solved today! Check out the link below:

## Finally.....

CALLING ALL CHAPERONES!!! Permission slips and a photo release for our Challenger Field Trip were sent home today. Please sign and return asap. I am able to take 3 chaperones on the field trip, which is Thursday, October 15th from 8:30-2:15. I'd LOVE to have you join the fun! If you are interested, please e-mail me by Tuesday, 9/29. If I have more than 3 people, I'll pull names from a hat on Wednesday, 9/30 so you are able to make arrangements.

Be sure to check and sign your child's Friday Folder!

Have a fantastic weekend!
