Navigating the Learning Commons
Holocaust Learning in the Library
When seventh-graders began their studies of the Holocaust, they used the Learning Commons to build some background knowledge. Setting the library up into different stations, the Learning Commons team and ELA teachers planned activities that highlighted various aspects of the time period, while providing access to various texts, both print and electronic. At one learning station, students gauged the emotional impact of the era while examining artwork that depicted children who lived in concentration camps. Another station featured classical music performed by a Holocaust survivor who was influenced by the time he spent in a concentration camp. Any teacher who is interested in planning with the Learning Commons team in using a Learning Station approach similar to this one, please stop by the library.
