Administrative Blast
Week 35 - May 14, 2023
Dear Coonley Parents/Guardians,
This year, students were introduced to the 7 Mindsets, our new social emotional learning curriculum. In April, we asked all students, teachers and staff, Which Mindset have you championed this school year?. On Friday, students received a Celebration Week t-shirt. The color of their shirt represented the mindset they chose. I encourage you to ask your child about the mindset they chose and how they have exemplified it this school year.

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers and mothers-at-heart. If you’ve lost a child, lost a mother, or are yearning to be a mother, I’m thinking of you today and every day.

Coonley Reality Fair 2023 - Volunteers Still Needed
The Coonley Reality Fair is back! The Reality Fair is an event where 8th graders choose a career and attempt to manage their budget during a "Game of Life." We need volunteers on Friday, May 26th from 8:30 to 11:00 to assist students at each station. You do not need to be a parent of an 8th grader to volunteer. Volunteering for Reality Fair couldn't be easier. You do not need to discuss your career. You do not need to prepare anything. All you need to do is just show up and we'll provide all the materials and instructions.
Please sign-up using the SignUpGenius linked. Contact Julie Star (julieastar@gmail.com) or Lindsey Foreman (lsforeman@cps.edu) if you have any questions. Please note, all volunteers need to be level 2 volunteers through CPS. The process is simple and ensures you can volunteer within the school and on classroom field trips. Bicycle Safety
The CPS Crossing Guard Team have noticed some safety concerns at the Irving Park/Leavitt intersection. If you have a child who crosses here, please review these important safety tips with them.
Bicycles in many states are considered vehicles and cyclists have the same rights and the same responsibilities to follow the rules of the road as motorists. It is important for the safety of anyone who is crossing in the intersection to dismount the bike or scooter to avoid hurting others because of space and the possibility of a collision.
Important Reminders
- Walk your device (bicycle, scooter, skateboard, etc.) through the intersection
- Slow down and obey the posted speed limit and pedestrian crosswalk laws.
- Cyclists, skateboarders and those riding a scooter should look out and be prepared to stop at crosswalks and should dismount at level crossings where a 'cyclist dismount' sign is displayed.their bike/skateboard/scooter to cross formally.
- Should not ride their bicycle, skateboard or scooter within the crosswalk since it is for pedestrians.
