Jayhawk Family Update
January 23-27

Dear Families,
The week was a little bit 'wonky' with so many bus cancellations, but these days also provide opportunities for some small-group and 1:1 learning and assessment that can be more challenging with a full class. Students and staff enjoyed the days together, but we are always happy to get back to our normal routines!
BAKE SALE!!! Fundraising Initiative for Sandy Pines - The students in Ms. Savard's Grade 6/7 class, through an initiative planned and led by student leader Abbigail Kennedy, have planned a Fundraising Bake Sale! The bake sale is TOMORROW, Monday January 23, 2023! All items will be priced at $0.50 and $1.00! Our Joyceville students will have the opportunity to buy yummy treats with all proceeds being donated to Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre! We welcome any donations of nut-free baked goods (we'll happily accept store bought treats too!) that we can add to our bake sale table.
Upcoming staffing changes - As some of you may already know, there will be some staffing changes for Term 2, which begins February 3rd. Ms. Sarah Peltier will be coming in as teacher in the 3/4 class (replacing Mr. Sanvido) and Ms. MacDonald will be returning to Grade 6/7 (replacing Ms. Savard). We have loved having Mr. Sanvido and Ms. Savard at Joyceville and we hope to see them again in the future! At the same time, we are excited to welcome Ms. Peltier and Ms. MacDonald! All teachers are committed to providing as smooth a transition for students as possible as we move into our second term.
Upcoming Pizza Days & Milk Orders - Pizza Orders for this Friday, January 27, are available to purchase online on and are due on Tuesday Jan 24th. Milk orders for the month of February are also available to purchase.
Just a reminder for families: Pizza orders placed for Dec 16 & Jan 13 (but missed because of bus cancellations/snow days), will automatically be included in the Pizza Order scheduled on Thursday, Feb 2. Families who did not previously order on Dec 16 or Jan 13, but wish to have pizza on Feb 2, may purchase online as per our usual practice.
Pink Shirt Day - February 23rd is Pink Shirt Day. Shirts can be purchased from the Boys and Girls Club (link attached below), if you wish to purchase one.
We are looking forward to another great week ahead!

A few reminders:
Covid Screener - Please remember to screen your child for Covid every day. The screener can be found here: https://www.ontario.ca/school-screening/
Anyone who is feeling sick or has any symptoms of illness, including those not listed in this screening tool, should stay home and seek assessment from their health care provider if needed.
It is strongly recommended that all individuals age 2 or older wear a well-fitted mask in indoor public settings. This includes school and child care due to the additional risk of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and influenza.
Children age 2 to 5 should only wear a mask if they are supervised, can safely tolerate masking, and can put their mask on and take it off.
Cashless Schools - As you know, our cashless system is up and running! Thank you to families who have already registered and linked their students! A reminder that codes are student specific and can be found on the paper forms that have already been distributed. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you need another copy of the form for your child(ren). Go to www.school-day.com, click Log In, then Register.

Indigenous Self-Identification form and process
Shé:kon, Boozhoo. This Fall, the LDSB Indigenous Education Team has worked to improve the Indigenous Self-Identification Form and process. With collaboration and feedback from our Indigenous Education Advisory Committee, the board has created an online version of the form that will be available on the K-12 Indigenous Education Minds Online page and on the LDSB website. This online form is meant to make the Self-Identification process more accessible for students and families, as well as reduce our use of paper across LDSB.
This online form can be filled out on both a computer and mobile device here.
Kindergarten registration is now open
Welcome to Kindergarten! This is an exciting time for both you and your student.
Kindergarten offers a wonderful new world of learning and growing. We learn how to read, how to write and we make new friends. At [insert school name], our Kindergarten program helps children get the best possible start in school. Your student will be challenged and encouraged to do their very best.
We are now accepting new student registrations for this September 2023. If your student is four or five by the end of December, now is the time to register.
The Kindergarten program allows children to develop emotionally, socially and physically: to grow creatively, and to engage in rich oral language opportunities and celebrate their learning. In Kindergarten classrooms, a teacher and an early childhood educator work together as a team. This partnership helps to create a nurturing learning environment; giving every student the opportunity to learn in the way that is best suited to their individual strengths and needs. Our caring team of educators is with them every step of the way!
We typically welcome new families to orientation events in May of each year. We will share more about these opportunities soon. We want everyone to see themselves in Limestone. You can feel confident your student will be cared for in a safe and inclusive environment.
Starting Kindergarten is an exciting time for everyone, and we are ready to welcome your student to a wonderful new world of learning and growing.
Thank you for choosing Joyceville.
We look forward to meeting you.
