Principal's Message
Dear Southwood Parents/Guardians,
Thank you once again for partnering with our teachers and staff here at Southwood to create another successful year of learning, caring and growing. This school year came with it's own set of unique challenges - different cohort requirements, a variety of ways we organized classroom set ups, and a whole lot of extreme weather. We are so grateful for your support and dedication to your child's school and learning experiences. We cannot do this work without you. As we have moved back into what seems like a more normal learning setting, we have loved having our parents and community back in our buildings, on our field trips and at our performances. We anticipate seeing even more of you in our school starting in September.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year here at Southwood; caring, learning and growing with everyone here. I am pleased that I have been given the opportunity to make this place my home for years to come and am looking forward to getting to know all of you a little better. Wishing you a great summer reconnecting with family and friends and enjoying some vacation time in preparation for next year.

Planning on Moving?
Meet the Teacher Night
Parents and children are invited to Southwood School the night before school starts to find their classrooms, meet their new teachers and drop off their school supplies. We are sure that this approach to "Meet the Teacher Night" will remove a few of the "night before the first day of school" jitters!
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR GRADE 1 - 4: Wednesday, September 7th
Staggered Entrance will occur for Kindergarten Students - please refer to the email you received.
Strong Connections For Grades 1-4
These two days will be set aside for teachers and students to be involved in some in-depth "getting to know your child" activities and assessments. This is possible because they will only have about half of their students in their classroom on each day. Each family will be notified which date their child will be attending school on Friday or Monday. The students will have a regular "school day" with some extras in terms of fun and unique activities in the computer lab, gym and music room.
School Supplies - New Plan for 2022-2023
1. School supplies that are consumable within one year will be ordered by the school at a reduced rate due to our bulk ordering capabilities. (This allows teachers to request the exact type and quality of supply they want their students to use without passing on the difficulty and cost of finding those items to you as parents.)
2. The school will order and bring in the supplies, and the teachers will then organize and distribute to the students as needed.
3. $40 fee for the year will cover all your child's supplies such as pencils, pens, notebooks, folders, crayons etc. etc. Fees should be paid, if at all possible on the Parent Portal.
4. Parents still supply extra running shoes for indoor use, headphones, a lunchkit and backpack.
5. Activity fees will be reduced to $15.00. Field trip fees may be added throughout the year, if needed.
6. In summary: School Supplies + Activity Fees will be a total of $55.00 fees owing per student.
2022-2023 Cohorts, Entrances and Pick-up and Drop-off Times
Just a reminder as you plan for next school year and child care... arrival time will be 8:50 am for all non-bus students. All students will remain outdoors until 8:50 a.m. Supervision in the morning begins at 8:30 a.m. for bus students only. Students who do not take the bus, must arrive as close to 8:50 as possible.
Students who are picked up or walk home at the end of the day will be dismissed at 3:40 p.m. Bus students will be dismissed between 3:40 p.m. and 3:45 p.m depending on the departure time of their bus.
