Grading Pilot Focus Group

Parents/Guardians,

Sartartia Middle School is participating in the FBISD Grading Pilot in all the English Langauge Arts and Orchestra classes. The grading pilot has changed the way that we give feedback related to student progress. Instead of using percentage grades, we have provided students feedback on competencies that reflect grade-level standards and are defined using learning progressions.

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey below and let us know how we are doing this year. This survey will close on Friday, December 13th.

FBISD Grading Pilot Parent Survey Link

In addition to the survey, we are asking you to provide feedback related to the FBISD Grading Pilot by attending a Focus Group meeting. Please sign up for the meeting by clicking here.

The Focus Group will meet on Wednesday, December 4, 2019:

8:00-8:45 a.m.

or

5:30-6:15 p.m.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at cholly.oglesby@fortbendisd.com or 281-634-6315.

SAFETY TIPS FOR AM AND PM CAR RIDER LINE

PLEASE

1.Wait in the single line to drop off/pick up your student.

2. Do not drop off/pick up your student on the street in front of the school

3. Do not drop off/pick up your student in the front parking lot

4. Do not drop off/pick up your student in the teacher parking lot or on the bus ramp after 8:10am

5. Do not stop the line to pick up or drop off your student at the front door. Follow the signage and drive up as far as you can in the circle drive.

6. If you must exit your car, please park in an appropriate spot and use the actual crosswalk.

7. Have your student to enter the car door nearest the school sidewalk. Walking around into oncoming traffic is dangerous.

Observing proper road rules can help to eliminate any emergencies or accidents. Please email the school or ask questions if you are unsure of the procedure or if you have extenuating circumstances for drop off and pick up.

Thank you in advance for helping us to keep the students safe.

Student Spotlight

Ekanthika Manoj is an 8th grade student who brings a big smile and a positive attitude with her each and every day to Sartartia. She works hard and isn’t afraid to put in the extra time to make sure she gives each task her very best effort. She is one of the first students into the classroom each day and when she leaves she always tells the teacher goodbye and often thank you.

Staff Spotlight

Becki Smith is one of our U.S. History Teachers here atSartartia. She also serves as the Professional Learning Lead for our campus. Her passion is helping people to take the next step forward in their learning journey as they work to continuously improve. Becki has been married to her high school sweetheart for 25 years. Brad is the Orchestra director at HSPVA in Houston ISD. They have two daughters- Emily, a senior at Travis, and Heather, a freshman creative writing student at HSPVA. Becki first started teaching back in 1994 then moved into educational sales/project management from 2000 to 2011 before coming back to the classroom in 2014. She feels blessed to work at SMS, her neighborhood school. The students here keep her on that path of continuous improvement and she couldn’t ask for better co-workers.
