Students learned about computer science and programming during Hour of Code!

Coding on the Computers!

Students got to code Minecraft, Flappy Bird and Anna and Elsa! They had so much fun! If you are interested in continuing at home, go to www.code.org.

Gingerbread House Decorating

We will be decorating gingerbread houses on this Wednesday, December 16th from 11:00 to 11:45. A permission form and ingredient list was sent home on Last Friday. Please return the permission form as soon as possible. Students will not be able to participate without a permission form.


Don't forget that all parents are invited to attend! Please indicate on the permission form if you will be attending, you will NOT need a background. We hope you will be able to join us for this fun event!

Icing for Gingerbread Houses

If you have not sent in a container of icing yet, please remember that each student will need their own container of white icing (any brand) to decorate their gingerbread house. Please write your child's name on the container and send it in as soon as possible! Thank you!

Gingertown PBL!!!

A big thanks to our guest speakers; Mr. Cushman and Mr. Jafri for taking the time to talk our 2nd graders about entrepreneurship and what it takes to run a business!

Holiday Party

Our holiday party will be next Friday from 1:45-2:45. The students are so excited! All parents are invited! ***Parents you do NOT need a background check to attend this!!!***

Family S.T.E.A.M night!!!

Get excited and mark your calendars for our first TCE FAMILY S.T.E.A.M. NIGHT on Friday, February 5th from 5:30-7:30pm. STEAM is an educational term to describe real world opportunities for students to learn with science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. At the TCE FAMILY STEAM NIGHT, TCE students and their family members of all ages are welcome to come and participate in a variety of unique, educational STEAM experiences. Participants will travel as a family (children with their adults) to share in the learning process! Pizza will be available in the cafeteria for families to purchase. More details will be forthcoming! We hope you plan to be there!

Students will be given their next set of Words Their Way spelling words and Vocabulary words on Tuesday, January 5th.

Class Library Checkout!

Our next class library checkout day will be Tuesday, December 15th, but remember, your child may bring his/her books back at anytime. We will find a time for him/her to visit the library individually to get new books!

We are Learning...

Reading: Finishing our novel studies by completing a plot line of important events in the story.

Math: We will be wrapping up our focus on division.

We are using a variety of strategies, grouping, repeated subtraction, multiplication table, partial quotient and some groups are attempting long division.


Word Study

Word study in 2nd grade includes spelling, phonics, and vocabulary development. We are focusing on 13 new vocabulary words until winter break. Those words are: income, profit, economics, need, want, resources, tragedy, effect, design, supply, scarcity, opportunity cost, and surplus!


Writing:

We will start opinion writing.


Social Studies: We will continue our study on economics. Students will describe how people in a community use productive resources, create a variety of businesses and industries, specialize in different types of jobs, and depend on each other to supply goods and services.
