Baker Bits
April 2022
a note from the Principal ...
We had an extremely exciting month at Baker Elementary as we experienced all things outer space throughout our reading month celebrations. From dress up days and engaging home activities, reading challenges and a Mini Space Museum brought to us by the Grand Rapids Public Museum, our students were immersed in literacy that brought them "out of this world!"
We are wishing you a fantastic Spring Break and look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces on Monday, April 11.
Respectfully,
Rachel
Distinguished Artist - Weston!
Distinguished Artist
Baker Elementary has a Distinguished Artist Program in which student artwork is on display like an art gallery for the school year. Each year 9 students are chosen as a Distinguished Artist. The distinguished artist is a student who is responsible in art, shows their creativity and works hard on all projects. Mrs. Spicer chooses 3 to 4 pieces of artwork in which the students followed directions and completed the project adding their creativity. A committee of staff members then votes on the projects to choose the winner.
Weston is the Distinguished Artist for his oil pastel cupcake drawing. For this project we talked about the artist Wayne Thiebaud. We were inspired by his sweet treat paintings. We practiced multiple ways to draw a cupcake. Weston chose to draw two cupcakes on a table and colored them beautifully with his oil pastels. Weston was chosen for his cupcakes because of the detailed drawing and vibrant color choices.
Way to go Weston!
