Panther Press Volume 3
Excellence,Everywhere,Everyday
Greetings Panther Nation!
It is amazing to think that we are already two weeks into another school year. Walking through classrooms this week, I have really seen our staff connecting with students and trying to create experiences that meet the individual needs of our students. We have a great staff and I cannot wait to see what they accomplish with our students this year.
We are very excited about the positive attitudes and culture that our students have been displaying this school year. With your help, we are continuing to make strides in the area of dress code with 95% of our students being compliant. IDs are now ready. 9th -11th grade students ended this week with an ID. They must be worn daily, around their necks. Temporary IDs will cost $1 each day a student shows up without his or her ID.
I hope you will be able to make it out to Duncanville High School on Thursday, September 5, 2019 for Meet the Teacher. Our teachers are eager to meet you and share a little about their classes and what your student will be learning this year. The event begins at 6:00 (and lasts until 8:00). We will follow a modified bell schedule to give you an opportunity to meet each of your student's teachers as well as see what your student's day is like. We appreciate your partnership with us, and look forward to seeing you Thursday evening.
The first quarter Progress Reports will be uploaded on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. Please check grades and attendance frequently by signing up for a Family Access account. It is fast and easy, additional information is located on our district website under Student Information Services. This three week progress report gives us an opportunity to officially communicate academic performance to students, parents and guardians.
I appreciate all your support and let’s continue working together to help our scholars plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win as they move through this school year!
Respectfully,
Michael McDonald

Attendance Matters
Your child can have a passing grade and not earn credit due to excessive absences?
Well, it’s true! This is a rule outlined in the Texas Education Code, Section 25.092. It is also referred to as "The 90% Rule".
The 90% Rules means that every student must attend school for 90% of the scheduled school days. That means that students cannot exceed 9 absences, per period, per semester. Once that number is exceeded, students will need to attend Credit Recapture sessions in order to receive credit for those courses. This is monitored by our Assistant Principals. Students will be called to the office to discuss excessive absences and make arrangements to make up the hours.
All documentation related to student absences must be turned in to the Grade Level Office within 2 days after the student returns to school.
If you have any questions, please contact the appropriate grade level office. Our Grade Level Support Staff and Administrators will be happy to help you.
Student Recognition
Students are preparing for Licenses and Certifications at DHS!
Mr. Thorpe already has his students learning about putting cars on lifts.
Ms. Mendoza and Ms. Ramirez Cosmetology was on point! Shampooing, hair cuts, and blow dries...
Friday night was the first rendition of DHS Friday Night Lights.
Football games are such a great showcase of so many talented students both on and off the field. While we are there for a football game, we are privy to wonderful performances by our award winning band, High Hats, and cheerleaders. What you see in these performances are not done by accident, they happen through a lot of hard work by students and staff. As you can see, we have really hit the ground running and are off to a great start!

2019-2020 Student Parking Regulations
Starting in the 2019-2020 school year, we will make changes to student parking regulations and guidelines for the safety and welfare of students, employees and guests. Through this new process, we will be able to determine who is parking vehicles on campus. In addition, the use of parking permits helps identify the drivers of vehicles parked in unauthorized areas and fire lanes. These new regulations support our goal of providing a safe and secure school.
Student parking permits may be purchased during the 2019-2020 school year registration at Duncanville High School in the Duncanville High School security office (room J112) and Duncanville ISD Campus Police Office (room L105).
The prices for permits are:
· $20 – per students
· $5 – second student in the same household
Students will need to submit a parking application in order to receive a parking permit decal for their vehicles. The parking application requires that:
· the student has a valid driver’s license,
· the vehicle is properly registered, and
· the vehicle has valid liability insurance coverage with the name of student on the proof of insurance
If a student vehicle does not have a valid parking decal, Duncanville ISD Police will issue a parking citation with a fine of $20. Students will be able to appeal the citation should they feel it was issued in error. After an excessive amount of violations, the student vehicle will be immobilized using a boot, which will require a $25 removal fee.
If you have any questions regarding student parking regulations, please contact the Duncanville ISD Police office at 972 708-3800 or police@duncanvilleisd.org.
Thank you for your partnership in school safety.
