Thoughtful in Third Grade
See what is going on in 3M and 3D!
Reading Workshop
We continue our dive into the fiction genre! Students are learning all of the good reader strategies they must use in order to be successful fictionistas! We shared many engaging texts. One text we shared was called, The Mary Celeste: An Unsolved Mystery. Students were great reading detectives and learned how to use their schema and evidence from the text to draw conclusions or create a theory as to what might have happened to this boat and its crew! Fun was had by all!
Math Workshop
Students spent the week working on math test corrections and the unit 1 Real World Experience!! Math test corrections are coming home for the weekend. Please look through the assessment with your child. See if they can explain to you their errors and what they learned while making corrections. For the real world project, students are in groups of 4 planning an efficient vacation route around the state of Illinois. They are very excited to create the most precise trip!
Highlights for the Week:
Science
Students began a study on oil spills and the messy cleanup!!!
Writer's Workshop
All writers worked to publish their amazing narratives this week in workshop! Our next unit will stick with a narrative edge, but will focus specifically on writing a fairy tale.
Social Emotional Learning
Every week we have a half hour dedicated to social emotional learning. Our current focus has been on showing empathy. Students played a quick Fan and Pick game to review scenarios and discuss the best ways for showing empathy to others!
