We Are Looking for Recess and Lunch Help
This is a GREAT way to get your foot in the door in our school. Many of our full time support staff started with us helping out at recess and lunch.
Please call Mrs. Roys at (810) 448-4001 or email at kroys@dryden.k12.mi.us for more information.
Before You Pick Up Your Child From School
Before you take your child please have some sort of contact (connecting eyes, speaking to, nodding to, etc.) with your child's teacher. This is especially important for our younger students and until teachers and parents recognize each other.
One day this week a parent unexpectedly picked their child up. The teacher didn't know and didn't see the student leave. We thought we had lost a student, which is one of the worst things that can happen at a school. There were about ten minutes with worried staff frantically searching for the student before we could confirm that she was picked up.
This also highlights the importance to call the front office if your end of day plans change.
Adult Guests Entering the Building
All adult visitors who enter the building (going past the front door) will need to wear a face mask, complete a paper health questionnaire, have their temperature taken, wash/sanitize their hands, and sign in. Many of these you probably already do, but having your temperature taken will likely be new.
According to the Return to Learn Roadmap that we need to follow for our BK-6th grade students, it is strongly recommended that we not allow guests in the building. Clearly there are some times when parents need to be in the building but we do need to limit it and follow our protocol.
It feels so unwelcoming to me to send out this information. We will gladly welcome our early childhood parents back in the building when we can.
Students Should Bring in Waterbottles
Free Face Masks
If you live in Lapeer County you can receive free face masks from the Lapeer Human Development Commission. All you need to do is call 810-664-7133 ext 1 and talk to Amy. At that time, she will coordinate a time for them to pick them up.

Building a Resilient Family
Every single one of us - students, parents, staff - is going through a challenging time right now. I recently read a great book titled The Resilience Breakthrough by Christian Moore. If there is ever a time to build up my resilience it is now! I highly recommend it.
The following information is from the Parent Guide from WhyTry, which is an organization started by the author of that book. The link for the complete parent guide is below.
Choosing Productive Over Destructive
There are countless examples of people who have used feelings of anger, frustration or rage as fuel toward something great. They used these feelings to positively change their world and the world of others.
Take Candy Lightner, whose 13-year-old daughter Cari was killed by a drunk driver one evening in 1980 on her way to a church carnival. Candy was enraged to learn that drunk driving was rarely prosecuted harshly. Consequently, she founded Mother Against Drunk Driving (MADD). Today, according to the organization’s website, MADD’s efforts have saved nearly 330,000 lives and counting.
Like Candy, many others in the world are fighting through the pain of discrimination and disrespect by taking action. In these moments, they seek to find a positive outcome. Many times parents will face this scenario when interacting with other parents, school systems, health offices, and many other organizations.
When these moments come, if our strong feelings lead to responses that hurt others or ourselves, it augments the problem. It can also perpetuate it by establishing an example. However, a parent with Street Resilience will do something productive about it, rather than throwing up the hands or retaliating in a destructive way.
