Board Commendations
The Board commended Boerne ISD students and staff, as well as celebrated district-wide honors. Below are some of the honorees.
Statewide Counseling AwardsBoerne ISD earned two statewide awards from the Texas School Counselor Association. Boerne ISD Chief Administrative Officer Dr. Ashley Stewart was named the Counselor Advocate of the Year, while Cibolo Creek Elementary School Counselor Nelda Zuniga earned the Elementary Counselor of the Year award. This is the second year in a row that Boerne ISD earned two statewide awards from TSCA. Dr. Stewart has been an integral part of creating a Texas Model Counseling Program in Boerne ISD. Nelda is the lead elementary counselor for Boerne ISD. She implements the Boerne ISD SEL program with fidelity and creativity, tying everything she does back to the Great 8 Skills To qualify for these awards, nominations are made based on letters of recommendation, a rationale statement, and a resume detailing significant contributions to the field of school counseling. Professional school counseling experience and leadership participation in the areas of supervision, professional development, program, implementation, and program advocacy are also considered. | CREST Awards10 Boerne ISD campuses earned 2022 Statewide CREST award winners from the Texas School Counselor Association. CREST stands for Counselors Reinforcing Excellence in Texas. In 2005, the Texas School Counselor Association began a program called CREST to recognize schools with outstanding counseling programs. Schools receiving CREST awards have demonstrated a commitment to using the Texas Model to improve the lives and achievement of students in academic, career, and personal-social domains. This is an extremely difficult distinction to achieve. The certification process requires that teachers demonstrate standards-based evidence of the positive effect they have on student learning in alignment with the Five Core Propositions. They must exhibit a deep understanding of their students, content knowledge, use of data and assessments, and teaching practice. They must also show that they participate in learning communities and provide evidence of ongoing reflection and continuous learning. More than 125,000 teachers across the United States have achieved Board certification. |

National Board Certified Educators
Two Boerne ISD Teachers have earned recognition as National Board-certified Educators, Fabra Elementary's Melanie Gohn, and Tiffany Woodward. This is an extremely difficult distinction to achieve.

BHS AP StudentsBoerne High School Advanced Placement Students, Georgia Busbee and Allison Clark's work will be displayed in the Journal for student research, which has published articles from 1,500 students at over 400 schools across the globe. Georgia is publishing the article "The Effects of Psychological Techniques on the Performance of High School Varsity Tennis Players”, while Allison is publishing the article "COVID-19 Business Impact Review”. Both Georgia and Allison also earned the AP Capstone diploma by completing AP Seminar, AP Research, and at least four other AP classes. This is an outstanding accomplishment! | Jr. Livestock Show WinnersNearly 40 Boerne ISD students earned the title of Champion this year’s Junior Livestock show. Boerne ISD recently crowned the 2022 Spanish Spelling Bee winners.
Kendall Elementary School fifth-grader Bailey Martin took first place in the elementary division, while Estrella Castro, a sixth-grader at Boerne Middle School North, earned top honors in the middle school division.
Martin and Castro represented Boerne ISD at the Region 20 Spanish Spelling Bee two weeks ago.

St. Jude DonationChampion Junior Maddie Barber earned $30,500 at the Kendall County Junior Livestock Show after she showed several Swine. Maddie will donate 100% of the $30,500 to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, where she was treated for Brain Cancer from 2017-18. She was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma in 2017 and has been cancer-free since 2018. She is committed to donating 100% of her sale donations to St. Jude, where she was treated, to help future children get treatment and enable them to pursue activities they enjoy. This is an outstanding gesture by a wonderful young lady. |

Champion Junior Maddie Barber earned $30,500 at the Kendall County Junior Livestock Show after she showed several Swine.

Winter Storm Employee Compensation
The Board approved a resolution granting the Superintendent to authorize compensation of part-time and full-time employees for workdays missed due to the closure of the school district during the weather emergency event on February 3rd and 4th, 2022.
Furthermore, the Board approved to provide additional pay to hourly staff who were required to work during the closure to address maintenance and facility repair because of inclement weather.
