Fourth Grade News
Week of April 3rd
Field Trip Rescheduled!
The students handled the news of our canceled field trip very well this morning. Of course they were sad, but were happy when we told them it was rescheduled! We will visit Mrs. Heather's Strawberry Patch on Monday, April 10th! We will leave school at 8:30 a.m. and return for 2:30 p.m. The students will need to bring a lunch or order a bag lunch from school. Please send your child to school wearing their field day shirt and any bottoms. If you are able to chaperone the trip, please email your child's homeroom teacher. We would love to have the parents join us.
Munchkin Mediation, Conflict Resolution in Oz
Our play is next week. The students have worked so hard, and they are ready to perform! On Wednesday, April 12th, please have your child at school for 6:00 p.m. The students will meet the teachers, as well as the room mothers in the Salem teachers lounge for makeup and costumes. In the Tuesday folder we will send home an order form for a DVD of the play. Each year we have the play professionally videtaped. The videographer comes early and will video messages from the teachers, the kids getting their makeup on, it is a wonderful momento. If you would like to order one please complete the form and send in the form to your homeroom teacher.
Easter Party
After we perform our play for the school on Thursday, we will enjoy an Easter egg hunt on the front lawn. Please send in twelve numbered plastic eggs filled with nut free treats by Friday. After the hunt, we will enjoy a lunch party in our classrooms. Thank you to everyone who has signed up to help and bring items for the party.
Testing
The week of April 24th we will be administering the Stanford standarized test. Please make sure students arrive well rested, and have had a good breakfast. We will not assign homework the week of testing.
Social Studies
Our students have taken a close look at what it meant to be a Loyalist or a Patriot. They have explored the meeting of the Second Continental Congress, and they have begun to explore the idea of natural rights. Some key figures we will be discussing are John Locke, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, Samuel Adams, James Otis, and George Washington.
Tinkering
Below you will find a TED talk on tinkering. So many children learn things through doing hands on experiments. We construct things when completing our Mind Missions in Social Studies. As the talk explains, students learn in their successes and their failures when constructing things. They work colloboratively and are able to discuss, plan, and build. Tinkering can be done at home as a family!
Have a great week!
