Principal Walder's Monday Memo
For the week of September 23rd
Even though we all know that every student is so much more than his or her test scores, this past week our South Dakota School Performance Index was made public. You can access this report and full scoring guide online through the SD DOE Website. You may see news articles or reports from the DOE about this report coming out. If you have questions about this report and what it means, please let me or Dr. Warzecha know. As an administrative team, we have spent time diving into the report.
This year, there are many reasons to celebrate your hard work! It is not just about the tested grades, it is a cumulative effort by all teachers up to and including the 3rd and 4th-grade teachers that result in great student achievement. Our student achievement was above the South Dakota average and our attendance was significantly above the state average as well. Both of these contribute to a great SPI score for our Titans!
It is important to note that our SPI is composed of more than just our student achievement and attendance. EL Student Achievement and student growth also play a significant role in our SPI. We are very fortunate that the TASD has been using NWEA to track student growth for many years now as this is a great way for us to focus on meeting students' needs where they are ready to learn. This week at PLC, we will be looking at data from NWEA as well as starting to dive into the instructional implications of the learning continuum. This student growth score will be a continued focus for our Legacy Team.
In the linked box below there is a short presentation on the basics of the South Dakota SPI. Before your PLC time this week, make sure that you have reviewed the Google Slide Presentation. This will help us to guide our first discussion questions.
Legacy PLC Topic for the Week
Agenda: This week we will be logging into NWEA to look at reports, discussing student conferencing and goal setting for students in both Reading and Math for your grade level.
We will be in the Meeting Room.
Review the Presentation on South Dakota's SPI prior to our PLC time this week. Thank you.
